is the etrac complicated to learn like the SE ?i am about to buy a SAFARI but need to make sure about the etrac.cannot handle a long curve of bells and whistles, just need a good depth machine that will lock on a target.never had any explorers before.just need some feedback on an ETRAC before i make up my mind.thanks guys.-----bill.

Basically I think each machine works just fine at getting the goodies with a minimal learning curve. I beleive the E-Trac will "lock on" to a target better because it has a faster processor and better filtering. As for learning curve, you will find shallow coins (And KNOW they are coins, those high Minelab tones are.... beautiful!!) the first time you turn either machine on, assuming they are there. Where the "learning" or "complicated" part comes in with an E-Trac might be understanding the sounds and readings especially with an object at depth, and configuring for different site conditions. Not sure how this would be for the Safari? If you can afford it, the extra $$ will be well spent on an E-Trac IMHO. Heh, you are in the E-Trac forum! :spin: :yikes: :spin:

I had the safari for a few months before selling it and getting the etrac a couple of months ago. The etrac is VERY easy to use out of the box - i was still a beginner when I got it. It just has a lot of room for tweaking if you want to later. As far as a comparison between the 2 machines, moseng is right on - It locks onto coins better than the Safari for sure from my experience. I would highly recommend the etrac having owned both.

The E-Trac will ultimately only cost you about $400.
If you don't like it, there is a ready resale market for about $1000 or so.

Rule of thumb - buy the best machine you can afford.

If you can afford an E-Trac,by all means purchase that.Use it and learn it for a bit and you will soon understand it's language.Go get em!!!!
