Help using a gold & silver testing kit

Southwind

Well-known member
I bought a gold & silver testing kit and just don't seem to be seeing any difference. To me it just looks like I poured water on the stone on gold and silver. Here is a picture testing a possible silver piece. What do you think? Any tips to make it easier to tell?

Thanks

I haven't come down to this end of the forum for a while and I'm surprised no one has responded to your post.
I bought a kit on e-bay and haven't been particularly impressed with it either. It has the cheap diamond tester and various acids. The brides diamond ring tests 'real', which is a good thing , but have yet to test a found stone for myself or any one else that tests real. The gold testing works pretty straight forward and the LCS confirms my tests but silver is abit less definitive. The items I have tested that turned out to not be silver were pretty dramatic in the color change but several times the colors are more subdued and leave you wondering. Experience/practice is priceless.
