Help with Tejon.............PLEASE

Hello all. I just received my Tejon today and I could not wait to get it after reading all the reviews. It seems as if everything I was reading talked about the depth and some being up to 15"-16" in air test. I was air testing mine on the table and I was BARELY and I mean just barely getting it to sound of at about 5-6 inches at most. I know I have to be doing something wrong, can anyone give me advice on what I might try and what I might change or do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and welcomed because at this point I am bummed, I wanted to try it out tomorrow but I'm afraid to take it not knowing how to use it any better that I do.

Sounds like your out of ground balance - take it outside, ground balance and then try again - also you may not have had sensitivity set up high. I use a tejon most of the time and did notice a time or two not only on the Tejon but also the cibola and vanquero, will sometimes air test light, but with adjustments or turning off and on they start getting the depth.

try using farite to ground balance for the air test. I recieved much better results that way.

i live in the northeast and recieved my tejon last month. I am doing everything i can think of to get ready to dig. it is killing me!!! Trying to learn all the sounds in a controled enviroment. I am used to the whites XLT. i cant wait to put it to shame.

It sure sounds like a ground balance issue. My Cibola air tests a quarter @ 14" in the house. Try it outside or bury something to test with. Good luck, you'll figure it out with some practice!!!

The Cibola gets extra depth in supertune. I see more difference on a nickel compared to a quarter in supertune mode. The frequency works swell on lower conductivity targets. The Tejon and Cibola are my partners.

I don't have a Tejon but I do have a Cibola. I would say the ground balance is off. Read,read,read the manual & then read it again. Adjustable ground balancing is great but will hurt performance if not done right. Good luck! Steve.

Be sure your batteries are hot and the ground balance is set. Also test it outside away from power lines. My vaquero loses a lot of depth when the batteries get weak. I bought a 9.6 v rechargable and its hunting 1 inch deeper.

1.turn the ground 4 times around towards the +
2.set the sens on 10 or little more
3.turn the threshold on max
4.make sure the batteries are good

if you done those airtest it and if its not 15" on a quarter

First off, you may not get good results in house no matter what you do. There are some eletro/electronic devices that interfer with the Tejon so if your results arent the best, take the machine outside, far away from any electrical interferaces and try it again.

You will need ot ground balance the machine to get the best results. Also, do NOT turn the threshold all the way, its not necessary on the Tejon (internal threshold is allready cranked all the way up). Set your Disc 1 down on "foil", sensitivey as high as you can before it starts to "chirp". On most machines thats right near "10" or slightly higher. Use a nickel, and and you should get in the 12-14 inche range.

Go visit the Tesoro website and read the Field report, you will get some additional advice there on how to tune your machine, and what to listen for. The Tejon is a sensitive machine and it can be fussy at times, but it is the deepest machine Tesoro has ever made, by far. First off....

Construct a SIMPLE Coin Garden. Use a Low Conductor like a Nickel and a High Conductor.. a Dime (Being the smallest of the current coinage).

Bury them at 10". Make sure the site is clean of other metal influences.

Tune your Tejon Properly and see if you can hear either targets. Re-Tune your controls until you can.

Regarding your INDOOR Air Test. Your subjecting a very high performance detector to electrical magnetic noise which can CHOP up 60%+ of Depth.

To check the loop and circuit.... simply ENGAGE the ALL METAL Mode on the bottom end of Disc 1 which has a Slower than the Pin Point Motion Auto tune. Take a Dime and start about a foot out and bob the coin up and down about 1/2 as you move it toward the exact center of the coin. You should be hearing that dime at 12".... if not, and it still is only detectable at 4 or 5", better take it back to your Tesoro Dealer for an exchange or send it back to Tesoro.
