help with the safari

I'm having problems getting it to pick up gold i go over my chain and ring and it only picks it up an inch or so no deeper what should i do is it something I'm doing wrong i have it set on the preset thanks sorry also it is not picking up pennies in coin mode only sometime i buried 1 and it did not pick up but on the ground it did any help would be great

Sounds like something wrong with your detector or sensitivity turned all the way down.
I have pennies in my test garden from 4" to 6" and I can pick them without any issues at 6".

i can speak about the penny - it should love pennies and be chirping quite loudly at least 3 or 4 inches down - and possibly double that depth depending on the ground condition. what is your sensitivity setting on? where are you burying the coin and how deep? is there other metal around where you are testing it?

it is set on auto 20 i think that is and no there is no metal i did get a hit and found a nickle and 1 penny but its weird that the 1 i buried did not register

how deep did u bury it? i did air tests with pennies on multiple sensitivities with the pro coil - posted them a couple days ago on this forum - do some yourself and see if they compare with mine. may give you an idea if there is something wrong with it. i doubt there is anything wrong with it though.

for a benchmark - put your sensitivity at 15. air test a penny - should be able to pick it up at about 10" with your pro coil on - if you can - then your machine is prolly ok i would guess.

Also make sure you are trying to hit the gold on all metal - sometimes some of the gold readings can be descrim out on coin mode.

CS78,
You said that you have it set on auto 20 ........ I am assuming that you are talking about your Sensitivity ......The number 20 is the highest range for sensitiviy on the Safari ..... If you want the Sensitivity to be in "AUTO " mode, you have to hit the arrow to the right when you see these numbers and keep hitting it when you get to the number 20 and you will see that it will go into "AUTO SENSITIVITY " range .......This is how you would get into the "Auto Sensitivity" range .....All the other numbers from 1 to 20 are manual numbers that you can enter once you get to know your machine better and you decide to MANUALLY set you machines sensitivity ..... Your machine will run much more quiet when in "AUTO Sens " mode and will adjust according to the ground ......Also , when you get into Auto Sens mode , do another Noise Balance to be on the safe side and enjoy your hunt !!......Jim

Everything seems to have been covered from the forum friends. I might add don't go turning knobs too fast. The Safari I have does'nt air test well but it sure finds stuff. Good stuff and deep stuff. Some may disagree with what I'm going to say but I believe new owners get excited and impatient. When you get out the first time don't dig anything but repeatable targets. Go slow and even if theres a lot of trash when that coil goes over a good target you will know check it both ways and dig it. You are going to dig enough trash targets along the way anyhow everyone does. With a little practice you can just about call the target before you dig it.Try both ferrous and conductive tones to see which you prefer. As far as your gold test don't be too concerned. Gold hits all over the scale. I think it is the different metals they add to the 10 14 and 18K karat jewelery. Platinum and white gold gives some strange I.Ds. But your Safari will find them. Don't think twice about asking questions there is usually someone out there that has had the same or similar experiences. Congratulations on your new Safari take your time and you will be rewarded.
