My E track has started acting weird when I locate a target it says it's very deep although it is on top of the surface down only a couple inches and then I cannot hit any any deep targets any ideas what this could be I've done a master reset on my machine still does it I have been using this machine for three years I am familiar with the depth I know something is wrong just not sure what it could be any help would be grateful thanks in advance

Try it with a different coil if you can get your hands on one and see if the results are the same. Also , how long since you removed and cleaned the coil cover?

You were given good advice to try it with a different coil. Hopefully, you have another coil besides what you're using and if not, I would certainly purchase another coil that would complement and be advantageous to your hunting conditions. You will certainly know if the problem persists. Besides having an extra coil of a different size (small in trash- larger in open fields ) allows your machine to open new doors. Best of luck !

Sorry for my delay in responding to your reply........

If you cannot find someone to 'borrow' a search-head from, to check-out your E-Trac, as wisely advised by others, then we need to do some

more specific testing and to obtain meaningful feedback on your operational data.

(1) Set your MANUAL SENS. to equal your indicated AUTO level....usually, that is about 15 or 16. (depending on local EMI)

(2a) My E-trac gives an solid audio, using a 1985 QUARTER, out to a distance of 7 to 8 inches using Auto Sense 16.

(2b) A 1997 Nickel's audio max range in air, is roughly an inch less...6 to 7 inches testing on my machine.....(at auto sens level.16)

(3) Using Manual Sens at the same level (16) may give a small increase over the above stated distances ( all subjective hand waving !)

All these tests, are best done with an 'open' discrim. pattern.

If you haven't already solved your problem, then maybe you can do these more specific tests, and let us know the results.....Matt
