Dale and I got out for a short time on Friday. He was doing some Windshield Chip Repair for a friend out by Alice, N.D. I told him I would come out and do some detecting with him out at the Farmstead. As I pulled in, I realized me and Rick(ND) had been out there previously, about 2 years ago or so, and had found only a few Wheats, but Rick has found Indians also. Dale and I detected for awhile and found a few Coins. Dale found a Merc and also a Wheatie or 2. I found 3 Indians and 1 Wheat Penny. We then talked to an older gentleman from Alice and got permission to detect his property. We didn't find anything Old at this spot so we headed up to the Alice Dance Hall where Old Coins have been found before. Both Dale and I only found 1 Wheatie each. We then headed to Rick's Bar to get something to eat and wait until Saturday to do some detecting with Tim.
Saturday Morning wasn't looking good at all for detecting but we decided to give it a try anyways. It rained and rained, then rained even more. There was no sign of it stopping either so we went to Wal-mart and bought some much needed Rain Gear. We tried doing some detecting for about 3 1/2 hours, but were having some difficulties with Tree Roots and how much Rain was already soaking into the ground. By the time we left, there was Water standing next to Tree's and in low area's. Dale was the only one to get any Silver that day. He found 2 Barber Dimes, an Indian Head and some Wheat Pennies. Tim found some Wheats and that was about it. I found some Wheats and a Large Caliber Bullet, but not sure what size it is.
Sunday I really didn't feel up to going out but just had to get some Silver, no matter how many or what kind. So I headed back to the Fairgrounds and on arrival, I should have known. There was Water standing in a lot of the area's where I have been getting all that Silver from, so I decided to give a few other area's a try in hopes of finding yet another Honey Hole. I didn't do my best in the other area's but I did get a few Old Coins. I only found 2 Silver on Sunday along with 1 Indian Head, and a few more Wheats. I also found a Key and a 12K Gold Filled Ladies Watch that was fully intact until the Glass fell out. The Glass was broken in about 5 different spots so I figured it would fall out eventually.
So here is what the finds were. I found only 2 Silver which were 2 Mercury Dimes dated 1929-s and 1941-d. For Indian Heads, I found 4 dated 1883,1887,1896, and 1903. I found 1 Canadian Penny also dated 1954. As for Wheat Pennies, I found another 22 of them. They are dated 18-d,(2)19,20,28-d,29-d,34,36-d,37-d,40-s,41,(2)41-d,41-s,44,(2)46,46-d,48-d,52-s,56-d, and 58-d. The Misc. Finds will be posted in Part:2. Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH to you all.
