Here's Some Stuff to Look At

I found the sterling WWII era 'efficiency' pin up in Fierro (ghost town). The ring came from near Silver City. It's not much to look at, and I thought it was a crummy, plated junk ring until I scraped the crust off of it. A nice surprise. It tests at 10K and weighs in at 5 grams. It was worth about $93 when I found it, down to $84 or so now. I'll just put it in the vault until gold goes up again.

I think my favorite recent find was this old hay fork. I cleared all the junk metal away from a tree so I could detect around it, and found this. If somebody stuck you with this, you'd know that you'd been 'forked'!

Here's a ID token for a local (ish) man. If anyone knows what the K. P. and/or F.C.(B. or S.) stand for, I'd appreciate. The graphic is a knight in armor with two battle axes and an Eagle on his helmet. I also found this nice old brass Saint Christopher token with Pope Pius XI on it - he was the Pope from 2/6/22 through 2/10/39. I guess this was blessed by him?
<img src="http://imageshack.us/a/img17/6172/1a90.jpg" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" border="0"/>
<img src="http://imageshack.us/a/img594/3962/4uqz.jpg" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" border="0"/>

Oh, yeah-- I also found his pen, heh. I guess it was a pen - ornate brass that was gold plated. Hey, it looks like a pope could use it!

Found a couple of nice old brass pins and a little copper enamel one:
<img src="http://imageshack.us/a/img20/3259/1s5v.jpg" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" border="0"/>

More Military stuff - I found the Indian Wars button (s - not certain about the little ones, but they were found with the other) behind a big rock, not too far from where I found the war hammer a while back.
<img src="http://imageshack.us/a/img560/3415/dhd2.jpg" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" border="0"/>

A few tokens- a 2 month AA one, an aluminum "Grand Slam", a 2 1/2 cent one with "C.C." on the back, which I haven't tracked down yet, and a toasty one mil emergency school tax from 1935 ( to keep the schools open during the depression).

<img src="http://imageshack.us/a/img35/870/aijd.jpg" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" border="0"/>

More religious tokens: a large one from 1980, and a little Italian aluminum one that's marked 1880 - I don't know about that - it's in pretty good shape. I suppose someone could have dropped it recently... did they make aluminum ones that far back?

Here are some finds from two days ago; I collect keys & locks, so I like the keyhole and the little colonial looking pendant or charm (it's quite thin - from a necklace or bracelet, I think). and the dog tag collection is growing!

John, I would make some spoon rings, but I haven't found enough spoons yet!
<img src="http://imageshack.us/a/img69/4958/ef9e.jpg" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" border="0"/>

The all important orbs, and half of what would have been a very nice little cast iron milk truck. The crimestoppers whistle should come in handy, though.
<img src="http://imageshack.us/a/img545/3337/6jko.jpg" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" border="0"/>

I found the other half of a heart pendant that I had found a while back. It was in some stone foundation ruins. Also, a couple of pieces of costume jewelry.

Some other highly collectible treasures:
<img src="http://imageshack.us/a/img854/5452/pj2o.jpg" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" border="0"/>

A small fortune in buttons, buckles and grooming aids:
<img src="http://imageshack.us/a/img521/8639/oymi.jpg" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" border="0"/>

I did find my first Silver City bottled Dr. Pepper bottle - imperfect, but a keeper for now.

It's almost as if the local townspeople rebelled against time keeping devices...
<img src="http://imageshack.us/a/img689/6100/tl9w.jpg" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" border="0"/>

A little iron - I like the button hook, door lock, and big chain - I'll hang a plant from it
<img src="http://imageshack.us/a/img40/5713/l8q.JPG" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" border="0"/>

OK, my REAL favorite find is the 'Do It In the Truck' patch, complete with shaking truck graphic! Also, another brass pin and two ad plates for Sinclair-izing your car.
<img src="http://imageshack.us/a/img690/7775/3gae.jpg" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" border="0"/>

I christened the new sand scoop with a maybe one hour hunt - it's already starting to pay for itself, heh.
<img src="http://imageshack.us/a/img834/9195/1pa8.jpg" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" border="0"/>

I always come home with a few pounds of brass, copper and lead...
<img src="http://imageshack.us/a/img546/8219/6cv.jpg" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" border="0"/>
<img src="http://imageshack.us/a/img600/9099/2q3u.jpg" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" border="0"/>

I think that's it for tonight - Oh, yeah - don't leave those old license plates laying around - I made over $250 so far this month on ebay with 'em - got $100 for one and $88 for another - bought my scoop and some other toys.

Best of luck in the hunt to all!!

Another outstanding post with some very interesting and varied finds! :clapping: Is that Hayfork hand wrought? It looks like it. Great Job!:please:

WOW! Have you been busy or what?!

Awesome finds! I love the tokens including the 2-month AA one. I recently found a 1-month one. Pretty soon, this forum may get the set! You have been busy.

Great Pictures. I'm sure there are jillions of stories to go along with all that. Thanks for taking all the time to post these.---Dan

Good Golly Miss Molly, that's a lot of cool, cool stuff!! Makes my back hurt just thinking about all that digging!! Thanx for posting it, I really enjoyed the walk thru some NM history!!

Thanks, guys! It's nice to have my camera back - Nikon did a little R&R and turned it around in 3 weeks door to door. Not bad. Now I just need to try to keep the dust out the telescoping lens. The car was up on jackstands for two weeks - about 1 hour of wrenching and 13 days, 23 hours of waiting for parts. Didn't solve the original problem (still working on that, heh), but at least the fuel pump and filter are all new, sigh. Got me on the mountain bike - I did a few detecting trips on it - got the AT into the backpack and stuffed the rest into the crate on the back rack. Kinda fun, at least until it gets up in the 90s.

Mud: The fork may be hand wrought - no marks or seams on it. I'll post a better photo when I do a little write up on my rustic display shelves project.

You should get a medal for all the spoons you have found, but you already have found enough medals too. Great finds! I always enjoy opening up your posts. :thumbup:

Another great bunch of finds! Think its pretty cool that you found the other half of the heart pendant. Thanks for sharing the pics

Hey that was fun!!! I enjoyed this posting big time!!! I never kept the old clock parts, maybe I will now!! Tim

John- You can never have too many medals - I might want to dress up like one of those wacky banana republic dictators and cover myself with medals.:crazy:
BigTim- I have a bucket of 'em - I thought that I'd give them to a mixed media artist or ?? at some point, heh. Worst case scenario, they're brass - last I checked, it goes for about $1/ pound at the recyclers, but I think the gears are kinda cool, brings out my inner Rube Goldberg... glad you enjoyed the post!

Hi William, a little late but do not want to miss the occasion to congratulate you again for your post, always so pleasant and care. Like many, I always wait impatiently their jobs, are good historical tour.

pathway Senda
