Hey Bob.... here is what I found

First forgive me if I ramble, I had a few Budweisers.

I tired the ET today like you said, ferrous, relics, auto+1, 4 tone. I found that it falses at least 50% less, probably 75% less in 2 tones with the same settings. That is the main thing I noticed today. I found a piece of iron about 3' long in the ground and worked all around it in auto and manual... 2 tones is better in ferrous, as far as falsing goes. I have yet to find iron that does not reveal itself for what it is wen I switch to digital and pinpoint.

I got to thinking after I got home about sensitivity. I tried setting manual sens to and below recommended sens. I found a piece of iron in the yard and tried switching to manual at and below "suggested" sens. I am not yet sure how much it helps.

The falsing seems also to be closely tied to swing speed, (especially if you swing too fast). A slow swing speed will still false but not nearly as much as a fast speed.

2 tones falses much less than 4 tones.

I still like conductive but have not compared 2 tone with 4 tone. I will though.

I look forward to your findings and those of others. To be clear... I struggled with the SE for the better part of a year and only began to understand it when I switched to AM/ferrous... however, I do not think that the E-TRAC will shine in AM/ferrous like the SE does.. it is different. I think it's strength will be in disc.

Wanted to try your suggestions Bob, so even though I was sick, I went out for a short spin at a nearby site. Unfortunately this site is far cleaner than the home site that caused me all the trouble with falsing. As Jbow said falsing did decrease, but I found I still had some, but the familiar iron tone was there most of the time. There were, however several targets that still falsed. Hopefully I will be feeling better tomorrow and can take the E-trac to a better(trashier) spot. It still burns me though that Minelab could not just code the software a little differently, and we could have easily had the best of both worlds :(

seemed to get much less falsing even though its really only two tones,it is not the same as two tone? dont get it, but it seemed to be the easiest on the ears in relic mode

I got a medium tone false when I used multi. Higher tone false on 4 tone, not as many of any kind on 2 tone.
