Just like to know if the cable from the coil to the unit has to be a certain length. Looks like mine may have been replaced-----coiled around the rod, but still has about 2 foot of excess !
 
Someone hip mounted it. No worry.
 
That's a Killer Machine on Silver Dimes when you learn the signal.
Hint: to Find Indian Cent , In Discrimination

Take a Lincoln Cent when you can hear it and then if you cannot hear the Indian Cent turn the Discrimination down a Very Small Fraction until you hear it. We used to Mark our cover with a Small Dot Black Sharpie at the setting

The coil wire on most machines is long enough to wind around the shaft many times. Some folks like to mount the box on their belt and they need the extra length. Takes the weight of the machine off their arm as they only have the coil and shaft to contend with.
