hot day, slim finds.......

went out for a short while today, first hot day we have had this year and it was super muggy. I got a 1917 wheat, and a "holed" token

I would take it, my hot day consisted of 10 memorials, 2 dimes, and 1 nickel, I'll trade 5 cents for your token. :bouncy:

Glad you were able to get out and hunt today. Too bad the token has a hole. Maybe it was used as a washer. That's a nice, old wheaty.

you know I have heard people say that they holed coins and tokens for washers but if so why is it not scratched up? maybe they holed it for a washer and dropped it before actually using it?

I recently found 4 of those tokens at an old town in Oklahoma... The old timers advised once upon a time pinball machines, when they were 5 cents to play, would actually pay out nickels for each credit earned... Apparently this was considered as gambling, and the good for 5 cents in trade tokens were then made to be used in the pinball machine and paid out for the credits earned... The old timers also advised that if you knew the bar-keep well enough, he would let you swap the tokens for nickels... If your tokens are the same size in diameter as a nickel that is what you have found... The tokens were made with the hole in them and not a later alteration... The token you found does look like the hole was wallered out though... Maybe some youngster was trying to make a weight change so a 5 cent gumball could be enjoyed...

Hey Goes. Still cool finds! Thanks for the pictures. I've only found one token and it was holed. Did a little research and found that they made holed ones as well. Mine was a "maverick" token...meaning, I take it, they didn't know who the manufacturer was. Mine looked a lot like yours...had a number on the back, I think mine said "Good for one package of Mints". I'll give you a Jeff. Nickel for it....I know how much you like them!
