How about Daytona Beach?

Anyone have any suggestions for detecting in and around Daytona Beach? I promise not to find it all and will let you know about any finds after I leave. Thanks.

If you go in the water , watch it , they don't call it the shark bite capital of the World for nothing. 2 bite a Day on average.

Seriously? Dang, thats where my family always went on vacation when I was a kid.

Hey fellas Thanks for the sharps advice. I hunted approx. a hundred yard stretch this morning at low tide and got one signal. A small piece of can slaw on the surface. This has to be the cleanest beach I've ever been on. I just must be in the wrong area of the beach.

I live here in Daytona, the beaches here are usually hit hard. There isn't a day where I don't see a few detectorists. Where have you been hunting?

Thanks Daytonagold, I've been looking on the beach in front of the Oceans 3 Condo. I just realized this evening after getting out and about that I really need to hunt behind the motels and resorts on N.Atlantic Blvd. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I know that these beaches are hit hard but I'm a firm believer that no area is completely hunted out. I think for an area to be completely exhausted that a person would have to grid off an area in sq.ft. areas and pass over that area with several detectors. I get that opinion from being a yard hunter. I can go back after I think I've exhausted an area and still find good targets. Granted they are fewer and far between the more often I hit it but there is always one little step I haven't taken.

I agree, I hope you didn't get the impression that I was trying to discourage you. You are totally correct about there being plenty of good targets out there. I was down in Ponce today, a few bucks in clad for over 3 hours of swinging, my only complaint is I wish there was more bling in the sand, lol.

Not at all DaytonaGold, I was just giving you my philosophy on detecting. Have you hunted behind the hotels and resorts on N. Atlantic Ave.? I thought maybe around the Hyatt or the Holiday Inn beach might produce a better chance at finding some bling. I love old coins but I do like the bling also. Do they allow hunting in the county park at Ponce? How about the recreational parks and state parks? Do you know anyone that gets to hunt the racetrack? I'm thinking that after the Rolex 24 you just might be able to find one there. Anyway today was probably my worst day yet,if I can't hit at least a pennys worth of clad it hasn't been much of a hunt. My least amount of finds to date was a 2 penny day some months back. Concrats on the clad finds, it adds up. Are there any good detector stores around the area? Do you run a 30/30? My hunting partner back home in Va. hunts with an Etrac and is considering a 30/30. I'm currently running an ATPRO and a DFX.

Man I'm hunting The Gulf Coast Fla. and it's pretty cleaned up. You got the right idea, get back off the beach, parks, sandy pull offs. If I was new to this, and came down here to find the beaches cleaned up like this, I might not last. My beachs tabs are sometimes scarce.

Dancer, I hunted Panama City and surrounding beaches last January. I found a total of $13.77 in clad and a couple of rings and some earrings. I dug 5 lbs. of pulltabs and 100's of beer cans, and 10 lbs of lead sinkers. Hey! but any signal in the sand is good for me, I'll dig it all. Good Luck.

SEROUSLY !!!!! More people get bite by SHARKs in Daytona Beach Fl. than any other place in the World. Over 700 bite per year. Check it out on Google.

Yes, I have hunted behind most so far and all with the same results, lot's of clad and the occassional silver ring or small gold. It is funny you ask about the track, my wife is really good friends with one of the France's and the other day she asked him if I could detect in the infield...as soon as the 24 and 500 is over I will be allowed to go in, I can't wait !!! I have the ctx3030 and love it, it's an awesome machine and goes deeeeep. I've accumilated over $50 in clad since Oct. of last year and hope for lots more.

As far as I know there are no detector stores here, there is a guy in the OK Pawn Shop who detects a bit but really doesn't sell. I purchased my ctx at Kellco, that place is amazing. Which machine do you like better, the ATPRO or DFX?

Hi Guys,
I too have the CTX and love it and I am hunting the Gulf Coast area, from ST. Pete to Clearwater and this has been my worst winter yet for finds. I find lots of tab tops and clad, but very little bling. I think that people are being more careful and their have been less people in the water due to the cooler temperatures this year. We just have to keep swinging and hope for the best.

We also have to remember that the tourist season is upon us very soon. We have (in Daytona) "Race Week", "Bike Week", "Spring Break", and plenty of tourists from Feb all the way through Jul so the great stuff is yet to come :) Depending on where you live it might be a good idea to find out what events are being held on your local beach, we just had a jet ski event and it was a huge turn out, however I detected there the day after and it was a total bust :( Oh well, I just keep on goin'.

Hey Daytona would you mind having a hunting partner at the track? I sure would enjoy it. If I find any big loot I'll share. Thanks Bob. I prefer my ATPRO as my go to it machine and my DFX if I'm going slow over a smaller area..

Bob,

If he doesn't mind, by all means you can come. I guess once the season is over he will contact the wife to let me know when it's ok to go in, once he does I will have her ask. I will keep you posted :)

DaytonaGold, I appreciate the consideration. Are we talking the end of the racing season or after the 24 and the 500? My wife and I went to the 24 today and watched 51 laps. I'll be going back tomorrow for the end of the race,I'll probably watch the last 3 hrs. Anyway I'll probably get back to some sand fishing on Mon.

Run about 1/2 mile of beach today at lowtide, got about 8 signals dug them all. Six pieces of can slaw, and two pennies. Felt really good to hit a high note for a change. I think the problem on this particular stretch of beach is the sand is really compacted and if someone drops a piece of bling and is aware of it,they retrieve it easily and quickly. I took the DFX in the water with the 950 coil and discovered the coil floats. I may try again tomorrow with the ATP and the 8.5x11.5 DD.

Hit Ormond and Flagler beaches yesterday found one penny and a couple pieces of can slaw and a tent peg. Does anyone know where I can go around the area to at least get a few pieces of clad? Yes, I would love to hear some clad at this point. In the time I've been here I've seen 3 others detecting and they appeared to be newbies with low end machines. What am I missing here? Any advice would be welcome at this point. I'm not quiting but am getting a little discouraged. I know its the low season but come on I'd like to at least hear some pulltabs. Hep me! Hep me he said.
