How are you guys chest mounting your Sovs?

Ive just been hanging the control box around my neck with the strap......anyone have a more comfortable setup they use?

I keep mine a little lower than most would, down at belt level with a strap that go's

around me to keep it from flopping out from me when I bend over, learned about

that from hunting the surf with my excel. after getting smacked in the face with it

a few times by waves. I use a " Bino- Strap" for mine ( sold in some sporting goods

stores for hunters to carry there binoculars so there hands are free to handle a gun ).

Really a good rig for a detector like the Sov.

I use a Bob Allen fly fishing chest pack. The box fits just right in the pack. All I did was cut a hole on the bottom for the cables. In dusty conditions I just zipper it up. Also, I added some black webbing suspenders from Lowe's as shoulders straps.

I will look those two up. Thinking maybe something that supports the box from a shoulder setup would be a good idea, something light weight though. Looked at the minelab pro swing, seems like way to much to just carry the sov box and that's all Im looking to carry, get that weight off my neck, should be more comfortable.

Two straps make it much easier. Keep it from flopping around by having one strap go around you. I prefer chest to hip mounting because I get pretty close to the water and every inch counts in keeping it dry. I thought about running a strap through one of those foam pool noodles (just a piece) to help keep it from digging in my neck.

goodmore I tried the foam pool noodle idea already and it works well at first but I sweat up under the noodle to much. The two strap is what I do now, better than hipmounting your right, also easier to make any adjustments.
Im ordering a binocular shoulder strap setup today from amazon, they are inexpensive at around $20, look like a good way to do it. Still will use the black bag but keeps the weight off my neck.

In the Gulf ive NEVER seen one chest mounted. I do believe the more you can keep them out of the water the better. All mine are shaft mounted behind the cuff. Ive moved mine back about 4 to 5 inches behind the cuff which allow me to adjust the length of my shaft used for better balance..... plus it keeps it out of the water MOST of the time at chest deep. food for thought.

I tried that setup Dew and don't care for it. With the box on my chest wrapped well in plastic I am fine with it. I don't wade in the surf deep with it, the sand is moving around to much there anyways. But bay beaches, calmer beaches the setup I use is great. Ive even floated the sov box on a small tube in years past and had no problems. I can understand peoples concerns about that but it doesn't bother me. Also chestmounting is still easier on the arm than the pendulum mount you describe. A little more of a hassle digging targets, but sure is easy swinging.
Still using the AT pro/gold in the fresh water places I wade into.

When it comes to the Sov and the water I immediately start having back problems. The Yellow Streak that runs up the middle of my back gets wider and wider the closer I get to the water.

That is the reason I purchased the Excal. Was out just under waist deep the other day and something took my attention away from what the waves were doing and one reared up and slapped me in the face. Knocked me on my backside. Had I been using my Sov I would have been a very unhappy old Phart.

Here's pics of my setup. I have an excal for the water so I just chest mount the sovereign for ease of swinging and shallow wading.

The case I got at a thrift store, cut a hole for the cable out the bottom and a slit for the toggle switch for tones (XS2 Pro).

The case had a belt loop and another strap for a shoulder carry.

I got a military type belt at a flea market. The belt carries the weight of the Sov above my normal belt line. The case strap I can loop around my neck but I find it more comfortable to just wrap around my upper chest and it keeps the Sov box from flopping forward when I bend forward. I find this pretty comfortable. I could probably take my meter off the shaft and mount it to the carry case and bag the whole thing for the water but instead I'm thinking about how about putting a meter on the excal? See my other post.

The white card in my picture is my laminated cheat sheet for the 550 meter Vid #'s. I tie wrapped it to my carry case for reference.

Selfies are hard.

I have a strap around my neck and a belt around my waist.

I use the older black box XS-2A. I carry it on my chest in the older blue bag. The older units perfornm very well and cost half of what a GT goes for. If I dunk it I am out $225.00.
