How do you hunt a trashy vacant lot?

Hey Everyone;

I came upon a vacant lot and the neighbor tells me it used to have military tanks on it.

He also said there were parts scattered everywhere.

The structure has been gone for a few years now except a few old trees.

I briefly hunted it but there was a ton signals all over the board... high conductive/non-ferrous metals, iron, etc.

After about 20 minutes I had enough and jumped onto the sidewalk tear out and scored a '41 merc and 2 wheats.

My question is..... how would you hunt a lot like this? Any tips, methods, secrets, etc?

In your experience, do most lots have a lot of metal in the ground after demolition of the home?

Thank you.

Im thinking slowly and a small coil but i have hunted junky places and got awesome results with the 11 stock coil.

Now I'm starting to think I need to approach vacant lots like an ultra trashy park.

I hunt trashy parks all the time but this particular lot seemed to have way too many annoying high conductive targets in the ground... too much digging.

I'll try more lots to compare because after all, this lot was a military tank parking lot.

Thanks for your feedback.

Exactly Happa54 alot of times i will only dig small coin sized targets if i hunt a area with so much high tone/mid tone junk size it when pinpointing also watch for those high tone iron readings on your display that may help as well.

I have a couple city lots where houses stood. I’ve had great success hunting from the sidewalk to 15-20’ in. Where the house actually stood will be a nightmare with little to find. Just my experience...

Yes, always hunt a trashy areas with a small coil - 6" range - move slow and swing slow and try to isolate the good targets.

Good Luck !

Hey IDX... didn't think I'd see you on this side of the fence in the Safari forums.

Yeah, the outside perimeter is where I dug the merc and wheaties from. I've hunted around a ton of trash, but this place is ridiculously bad.

I used my SEF 8x6 here to no avail. It's almost as though the tanks were buried here in the ground.

Oh well... on to different and more huntable grounds.

See you at FMD forums....
