Just found a 1944 P nickel
It is beautiful and my first Silver Nickel
I consider it Silver even if it is not %100 Silver
But, do you value the "Silver Nickel" and consider it part of your Silver tally?
Thanks

banditicey, A war nickle has 35% silver content and is worth about $2.32 right now. I definately count them as I dont find enough silver not too.:clapping:

Congrats on the war nickel. I can tell you this, when I find my first one, I will call it silver. -- Randy

I think he is beautiful!

Thanks for the FE/CO number. I've had my etrac for 5 weeks now and still haven't found a nickel of any type yet. I keep getting pull tabs and can slaw every time I dig anything with a 12-11 through
12-17. Oh well, just have to keep after it. Congrats on your first silver war nickel.

n/t

I have found 2 this year, one came in at 12-13 at 3 inches the second at 12-14 at 6 inches.

yes I count them, I have dug 15 of them this year, and 90% have come in around 12-17, the other day I dug one hat was 03-19...04-19

How do I view the Silver Nickel....with great glee!!!!

Oh yeah - add it up there on the silver chart! I missed it by one year last night and pulled a 1941. Earlier this year I dug a 1943 and didn't even realize it until I was counting the coins at the end of the hunt... I almost tossed it into my "regular" clad jar! Since then I look at all Jeffies!

No, they are NOT included in my silver counts. They have a small percentage of silver, and the other metals included (magnesium) makes refining the silver out of one more costly than the silver value. They are just another nickel in my book.

not sure why not? for one they are way HARDER to find than any silver dime or quarter, it takes a lot of digging to find them....they were only made from part of 1942 to 1945, therefore there are not very many in the grounf compared to other silver coins. and.........they carry a nice silver value

$2.3265 is the rounded silver value for the 1942-1945 silver nickel on August 30, 2011. This is usually the value used by coin dealers when selling these coins at melt value.

Love finding nickels especially the silver war nickels. Found 3 at the same place so far this year. Have 27 total I've found in my lifetime detecting so far. Gimme more please!!!!

Is that was ARA or another refinery would pay for them, or just what a dealer charges based soly one the silver weight?
