How Is This Even Possible?!?

I got permission to detect an 1890 farm house that is in the process of being torn down. Within the first few minutes, I dug my first coin, a 1939 wheatie, that was only about an inch and a half deep. I thought I was on my way to a great day. Over the next three hours, I proceeded to dig another 47 coins - all of them clad!!! That wheatie was the only keeper I dug. I found coins on all sides of the house. I found coins in foot high grass. I found coins in the gravel driveway. None of them were more than about three or four inches deep. I mostly used the two-tone ferrous set up. Some of the grass was really deep, but in other places, it wasn't too bad. I just couldn't get a deep signal. I'm tempted to go back with a lawn mower and mow the whole place. There has to be more there, but for the life of me, I couldn't find it today.

I'm perplexed.

mow it for sure, I would bet there are deeper coins there, the tall grass will cause you to lose a lot of depth

what was your sensitivity set at?
Manual or auto?

is the ground bone dry?

No, in fact we've had near record rains this year. It rains about every other day.

I received permission today to go back out there with a lawn mower. I may try and go over there tomorrow (it rained this afternoon). If I get a keeper on my first hole this time, I may just stop there. That's the way my luck seems to go - start great and downhill from there. We'll see what happens.

I'll bring my camera this time, too.

I hope it isn't the case with your site. But something that hasn't been mentioned is that it may have been hunted before. I know that when I go back to hunt some of the "public sites" that I beat to death in the early 70's, other than an occassional silver dime or IH cent (just enough to keep me interested enough to go back) all I find is a pocketful of clad. Like I said, I hope that isn't the case with your site. But it could be possible. JMHO HH Randy

I feel your pain!!!!!! I have hunted places before where you think it should be loaded with goodies but come up with only newer coins or nothing at all.... Keep at it and you will come up with something  The ground changes all the time!!!!
