How long have you been swinging?

Since 1964 when I built my first BFO machine. Found nearly $5 face value on first trip in my own front yard! There used to be a bus stop right on the corner of the property. I still have everyone of those original silver coins, and real pennies!

Over twenty years. Trained with mine detectors as a combat engineer in the army back in the mid-eighties. Went on some awesome relic hunts and prospectin' trips with some army buddies. Bought my own machine in '89, the original Garrett Grand Master Hunter. Awesome machine. Still have it to this day and it works just as well as it did on the day I took it out of the box. I've used several different brands of metal detectors over the years, but I choose to specialize in Garrett machines now. They really won me over with their excellent customer service, ease of use and well built, quality equipment.:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

Going on my 7th years. Found this forum last year then had knee surgery. Hope to be posting finds this year though.
Happy Hunting

Ace 250
6x9 coil
10x12 coil
Last year I bought the DD 10x14.

Started out with a Heathkit detector kit around 1965. Now with only an Ace 250. Six or seven detectors in between. One or two high end.

Lot of guys started with a Heath kit and some built one from scratch from plans in the electronic magazines back then.. I started with a Metrotech back in 1963, a primo tector of that day. Seems like a 100 years ago. HA.

Dang, got a lot of oldtimers on here. I thought I was about the only old fart on here. Lot of experience floating around here.

Yeah I used Compass for many years. Wish they were still in business. Was the detector to own in it's prime. One of my last ones was a Relic Magnum 7. Wish I still had it. I done a field test on a Gold Scanner some years back for Steve Goss when he was still trying to hold the remnants of Compass together.

I've been dirt fishing for about 13 years -- when I was 14, I started swinging a Master Hunter VLF/TR in 1978 for 3 years before going into hibernation until 2000 when I got my GTI 1500. And I've been 'tecting for the past decade since!

I've been enjoying the hobby 36 years. Started in !974 with a md called a treasure hawk since then I have owned 4 Garretts. I currently have a GTI1500 and a White's mxt

Started in 1974 with the Radio Shack electronics kit that was available at the time. They had all kinds of projects and I liked the metal detector kit, it had a red plastic box around 5 x 7 inches with all kinds of resistors, capacitors, transistors, etc. With the red box, they also provided copper wire to make your coil which was wrapped around the box. It worked pretty good for what it was worth. The next detector was a Treasure Hawk, I found all sorts of stuff, dug everything back then. In 1978, the next detector I purchased was a Whites 5000/D. I really took off with this hobby! Dug alot of silver and IH & Wheat pennies. Relic hunted in places that are considered off-limits by today's standards/laws. Throughout the years, I've owned several Garrett's and Whites detectors. Presently in Garrett's, I own: Master Hunter 7 ADS (analog meter), GTI 2500 and Ace 250; In Whites, I own: 6000/D ser. 2 (analog meter), Pro XL (analog meter) and Vision (Spectra) V3. . . And yes I use them all!

Granted, I still get out there MD, but feel the aches and pains on my knees and back these day's. Hopefully, I can keep going on for another 20 to 30 years! Man don't ya love this hobby or what!

Started in1968 did it for some years got serious in 1988 when I retired.

1974 - started off with a Jetco Mustang - took about ten minutes to realize how bad THAT was. Then got a Fisher Metalert - used a next to impossible to find round 9 volt battery, but used it for a while. Then finally a Garrett Coinhunter dual coil BFO bad boy. Same year that the first Garrett discriminator came out. My dirt huntin' buddy had a Garrett Sidewinder dual coil, then bought the new discriminator. I could get deeper targets, but he beat me BAD finding the coins while I was digging junk. Then took about a thirty-two year break. Had a few junk detectors between -but nothing worth mentioning.- Fast forward to 2008 where after careful research got the Garrett Ace 250. Been very happy with that.
