How low will you go..........

When it comes to outside temperature and detecting? I honestly can't answer.....it'll depend on how the bones feel.

45 degrees is my magic number and it can't be windy at that temp. Just put on the thermal tops and bottoms and its all good.

I go as long as the wind chill stays above zero. If the ground is frozen, I'll search for surface coins or hit the tot-lots. If the ground is still thawed, I hunt normally. Indiana winters are just too long not to hunt when you can.

probably in the 40-50 degree range, depends on how much sun is shining and how hard the wind is blowing.

30 to 90 works fine for me. I want to get my daily hunt in and simply dress accordingly. HH jim tn

I'll go in the cold as long as the soil isn't frozen hard - I just can't take the summer heat.
Winter is my favorite. It has rained so the soil isn't usually hard and dry, less people out, got to get out once in awhile anyway, and the 2 dogs love it when I take them with me detecting. I also don't care for the downpours and hurricane winds either.
So when I get out between the rains on a nice calm crisp day, it's a good day no matter what the finds are.

Hey guys, I'm in Orange County, California. It was 102 degrees here Tuesday the 2nd of November. But I gotta tell ya, that's just too hot to hunt. Went out today for a while - it was upper 90s and the combination of the heat and lack of success (finding only a little clad here and there) quicky sapped my enthusiasm. Too bad it can't be 70 degrees and sunny year round - on second thought, that would bore you to death.

I still envy you guys finding 18th and 19th century (and even earlier!!) coins back east. Even with your shortened detecting year, your coin finds make mine look pitiful. I just recently found a silver coin spill (about 10 inches deep) with my V3i - a couple of silver quarters (1950s) and 3 silver dimes (all Rosies). This is the FIRST silver coin SPILL I have found out here EVER (been at it here about 12 years). You guys find more IHs and silver coins in one shortened season than I do in a dozen full years of detecting. Lucky for me the jewelry finds here keep it interesting and there's enough clad about to buy the batteries and keep gas in the car.....

I have hunted with snow on the ground? Not sure as to temp. If the ground is frozen in one spot it may not be in another? I am in NC so not to bad. A pair of Carhartt insulated Bibs and good socks, Beale.

Once the ground freezes, hunting season's over for me.

38 degrees today; I lasted about an hour and 15 minutes. The ground wasn't frozen but I was.

20 degrees out right now and I am just killing time until the ground has a bit of time to thaw out from last night and then I'm going digging. Could be the last outing of the year though.

Digging in the snow and cold, I'm glad I'm not the only crazy one out there. Under 40 degrees I'll take my analog detector with me, but digging pull-tabs in November is fun! As long as I can push a probe through 4 inches of ground, I'm on the hunt. You have the park all to yourself!

If the snow would just melt I'd go right now!

A couple of French Canadians on another forum went out in the snow laden Quebec and did dome water hunting, it was to windy at that site so they went to a smaller lake, it was froze over!

Hardy bunch up there to the North!

Best Regards,
Steve

I got a new GBSE coming Monday 29th I'm going out with it
