How to approach great spot not giving in auto plus 3 anymore?

Have a sweet place to hunt that has produced most of my great coins this year and i am ready to change things and go over the area again.I just dont know which to do first.Should i go to manual and cover ground in all directions, as i have been hunting in auto +3.If the area is not littered with trash is there any reason to go over in ttf?If i do hunt in manual would it help to use a small sef coil versus a large one to quiet down the detector so i can run at a higher number or would this not matter?Just your opinion on how you would search this area again would be helpful. Thanks to all charlie

I'd stay in multi tones. I use a small coil every now and then (8" & 6"). I use the stock coil about 99% of the time and that's in heavy trash too. I'd stick with the stock coil and just try moving a little slower than you normally do. Cherry pick for anything at least halfway or more down your depth gauge. I know a lot of people don't use deep and fast on but I have good luck with both on. Won't hurt to give it a shot. The ID numers will be off but the tone is there. Good luck!

Hi GK,
In spots like this i go over the ground with my favored settings several times in different directions. Then I start to change settings in small hot spots. Ill hunt with a new setting say fast on or deep on for a while and if I find a target then I will start testing the sens, open the discrimination more, and change a few settings slightly to see if I can get the new target to come in nice and clean. Ill hunt for a while like that. IF I don't find a target then I tend to slowly try different things.
Don't make to many radical changes at once as you want to recalculate your brain to the machine as well and that takes some getting used to how the response will apply to what your used to.

IF you have lots of trash then a smaller coil for sure will help separate the location of good and bad targets, You may loose some depth but probably not enough to worry bout as you have run your bigger coil already, now its time to try to find the hiding targets right? . Don't over max the sens unless the ground is easy to dig in as you will dig lots of false signals with a maxed sens. In trash for me stability is key for discrimination. Hot spots I might even rake off the top layer if possible.

There are really lots of things to try. Most important for me...I never hunt with a bad attitude about a spot...if that creeps in then Ive lost the mojo and don't pay enough attention to really hunt with the supper sleuth machine. Keep positive and try out the limits of your machine.

let us know how you do.

good luck,

TTF only will help if there is a patch of iron. If your machine nulls out alot give it a whirl. Otherwise the posts above are very useful! Most of all work slow and low and at different angles. I sometimes wish I had not gotten rid of my 6x8 but the pro coil should do fine unless super trashy. Good luck!!

i am in this same position having gone over some pasture land every which way and now finding very little so i have read with interest how to get those deeper targets that must be there still not sure after reading though which way to hunt i have never hunted with success in conductive but really am thinking could this just be the ace card to bring out the bag now will i get more depth and be able to use more sensitivity and will i have to continually look at the screen as at the moment i hunt ttf by ear only last night i was considering my options i thought i could bury some silver and then check all my ideas out as i am sure this field will hold some hammered coins how strange this topic should come up today each piece of land is different and thats what i love about the etrac you can retune it to cope with the soil conditions may try four tone ferrous to see if i can pick any goodies up has anyone tried this with any success????????????
