HUGE Dog leads to a deepie - Short Video

This big dog scared the C R A P out of me. Imagine digging a hole and not hearing a thing and then turning to your left and seeing a dog 6" from your face that is taller than you when you are up on your knees! Well, I was only shocked as I'm not afraid of dogs. Man it was a great experience (in hidsight) eheheh.

One target of a deep coin. I had deep on, fast on, trash high, ground neutral. It was raining so the screen isn't so clear but you can see the target jump and the sound tells all.

Watch it by clicking on the YouTube word to open Youtube up. Then click on 480 and watch it full screen. Don't know why it doesn't give the full screen option in the message?

Nice Video

What are these Nazi Coins you tend to find
I guess the Nazi's produced coins during WWII
Were any Silver?

One of the things i enjoy most about detecting in Parks are the Dogs
I luv dogs and have had large ones and now have 2 small ones, look at the picture ID

Believe it or not it is one of the best parts of detecting when a friendly loving animal approaches and
I take my gloves off stay still and offer my hand, then they jump on me and kiss kiss kiss
I once met a 1year old Great Dane almost entirely white, deaf and some vision issues and you can imagine this loving thing
The owner thanked me because she said many people will not approach the dog because of her size and excitement

Regards and HH

Well, I don't actually enjoy finding the Nazi coins anymore. But, they did produce a few silvers and I found a huge, like new, 2 Mark Karl Hindenburg coin. Not many produced.

I love when the dogs play around with me and it often is an opening to talk to the owners as well.
But this dog was big. I don't think you can appreciate it in the video. He had to weigh over 150 pounds easy. I mean he was way bigger than our Sheppard that was around that. It was lucidly funny. I heard a slight breath and looked to my left and he we were eye to eye. I was shocked and then smiled and said hello. It was the funniest dog shock I've ever had.

Owners often apologize when their dogs come up and I say I grew up with large German Sheppard's, but that in itself is funny cause Germans call them Sheppard's (of course!).

EMS why you dont use simple shovel instead of small Lesche ? How I understand you are from Germany?

Did you happen to try Ground Difficult over it before you dug to see if the signal was in any way better??
Also do you sweep that slow or just that way because of the video??
Sometimes I find a slightly faster sweep speed with the coil right on the ground makes the signal way better when hunting.
Also you can do a small like wiggle over the target maybe just a few inches back and forth over the target and it brings it in better for ya.
Didn't know if you knew that the Etrac and Explorer series don't like air under the coil so if at all possiable try to keep it flat on the ground reads better and gets better depth.

Hey Stasys - I was thinking of using my folding shovel but it actually ends up hurting my back. The Knife is more work but better form ;-)

Tom - I checked thoroughly on the deeper targets and I do think "difficult" was slightly better than "neutral" - I don't understand it as the sensitivity in auto was 27-29. But, from running my V3i there I have found there is iron minerlazation (but overall low mineralization). Sound right to you considering the ground?

In auto I found I could swing sweeper. When in Manual (on that target) a slower swing, a crawl if I wanted, picked up the target better.

I'll try the rest that you said. Thanks for the comments. It's why I love filming - you experienced guys can hear and see so much to pass on! Thanks,
The air under the coil is because my elbow is really hurt (I was swinging with the left at times) and when I make contract with the ground it "drags" and hurts me a bit, but I know to drag and do it more with the left.

Thanks again guys and have a Merry X-Mas,
Albert

A lady used to come to the grocery store with one of those in the back of her pickup.. she said is was a Irish Wolfhound. They used it on her ranch to run down coyotes...

I would be unable to hunt due to all the crap in my pants from that! I had a horse do that to me once, but it put it's nose
right into the hole I was digging. I almost had a heart attack, three horse followed me and after 3rd hole they lost
interest in left. Lucky I didn't get stepped on!

Albert your doing great THANKS for the Kudos and to you as well there. I'm not really an expert as I've only had my Etrac for 2 years but from using it as much as possiable and selling all my 4 other detectors I had to get another Etrac I have learned some things quite by accident or by useage so am trying to pass them on to others as well like we all are on here to do to help each other out and make better finds

I just leave my Ground on Difficult all the time. Park hunt mostly. Some day I'll get to a beach or sandy area and try it in Normal mode. I also want to go back to a small park I hunted hard this fall and try Trash Normal instead of HIGH to see if that brings anything else out of the ground. High gives it the SEE through capability if there is a discriminated target and a good target it lets the good ones signal through so it's not blanked by the larger or closer bad discriminated target. Now that I have pounded this small area I want to see if on Normal any other signals are there to be found.

I wanted to ask, do you guys think the signal I got on the 8" or so deep coin was typical for that depth? I don't know if it would go much deeper. My V3i says the ground is very mild but has a lot of iron mineralzation. I'm thinking the iron mineralization might have cause problems for me V3i (I can't say for certain yet and need to compare signals). Anyway, I wonder if the E-Trac is somewhat affected by the ground judging by the sound. The target crosshair was jumping around as well (from what I can tell).

Thanks,
EMS

ps - LOL AJ! That was a good one.

Tom - I want to try fast off but keep ground on trashy and see how that works on the deeper signals. I run the volume on 24 and keep my Grey Ghosts turned up all the way as I often touch the separate volume knobs taking them on and off and it's harder to find 3 notches over rather than just turning them all the way - If that makes sense! I run the gain on 27 as I do like a subtley softer signal on the deep ones.

Nice story and I too believe in signs like that.
