Ok where do I start.....what a fabulous hunt. The day was great the weather was perfect. The very first thing found was by my hunting partner and he got a 1885 seated dime, that got us both jazzed up, believe me :clapping: the dime was 2" deep, he almost didn't dig it because he just dug several aluminum pieces all around it at the same depth!

then 2 minutes later, I found the Indian penny, it was beside a large tree and maybe 3" deep, I couldn't believe how shallow these coins were. Then my second find I got a bouncy signal, it was pulltab, then penny back and forth. I said to myself I am digging who knows what it is, well 4" down I popped out this 18K ring, needless to say the happy dance was done again by me....
then to finish the day I got 2 wheats 1942, and 1944. My partner did not get anything else. We thanked the president of the historical society over and over for allowing us to hunt there and he told us we are welcome back again, since we can only hunt there when they are open and that is Sunday 2-4pm. You can bet your booty we will be back!!!!

the president was so nice, he really took interest in talking with us, and seemed very sincere when he told us we were welcome to come back

Congrats to you both! :) The rings markings look old. Never heard of copper plated gold, but the other way around. Copper plated with gold was done a lot in the old days. The ring looks gold by the pic. Indians don't come much nicer than that! Great finds! :)

It was from the UK, by seeing the Lion on it. Great find! :)

OhBoy, Goes4ever..did you ever strike it today!!! Congratulations!!!

That IH is in perrrrrrrrrrrrrfect condition!!! How nice those Liberty letters look on the headband...have never seen that before.

And that ring is gorgeous...I have seen that stamping before .not on any rings that I have found, but on rings from posts on another forum.don't remember if that is an England stamping .

Just wash the ring with a mild soap and the keep shining it with Jeweler's rouge....it'll shine up beautifully

you did some great detecting there!! :jump::clapping::super:

here is the info I got from another forum about the ring's hallmark
From 1798 to 1974, the 18 carat standard of gold was indicated as follows:

What is that to the right of the 18.is it a lion?
What is that to the right of the 18.is it a lion?
yes and I was told:
The Lion notes that it is British.

Hey, I was right on that one! thanks for the reply...are you busy shining that ring?:wiggle:

I know that feeling.....only problem is ...if I don't find some gold soon, I will forget how it feels like to find some:(

Fantastic Indian head mate. I found one once down here in Australia when hunting up some goldfield relics, it was an 1859 but had been through a bushfire and wasnt in great nick. Still I was wrapt to find it over here. Our mineralised ground really hammers the old coins bad and often they are so affected that they are hardly discernable.
Great finds.
