I recently heard it said that medal detecting is somewhat of a selfish hobby. We protect our spots and rarely hunt with others.... more so the experienced hunter than the beginners. I have done a lot of traveling and hunted all over the states. Ive noticed it is the new guys that are first to respond to a request for a hunting buddy. I know its difficult to bring more than another person to a site without drawing attention so most of us dont. Do we really like to hunt alone, are we selfish about our sites, is it difficult to coordinate times, or is it just difficult to find that right person to hunt with on a regular basis? Are clubs worth the effort and time that goes into them if we dont want to teach, learn, or attempt to hunt with those in them? I guess im curious as to why more of us dont have regular hunting buddies or maybe we do. Personally i enjoy the company of others even in a hunted out park especially if im new to the area. What i found to be true in the Army was moving around and working with different people that did the same job they did it differently and thats how you matured in your specialty. I dont think its any different for detecting.... we all have something to share. What motivates us to hunt alone?
