I am thinking about hitting this place.

This is just a little bit away from my house. It's situated between two public streets and seems to be public property. It also stretches down across the other way so it would take me a while to do. Ground is moisturized from rain, mostly grass with some bare spots. It looks like the city has a waterway running through it. It says it's a park and the only thing I saw for regulation was "No dogs allowed in park" There are a lot of places like this in my city. I think I will do it quietly and early in the morning.

Also on both sides of the park is some big trees so some of this area (strips between sidewalk and street) seems old too.

I can almost guess that a nosey nieghbor will call the cops and even if there is no law the cop will ask you to leave just so he doesn't get another call from Agnus...the nosey neighbor.

Yea, I can picture that too.

Places like this are where I have made most of my best finds. It's hard to hunt near the curb/street sometimes... lots of litter and junk, but there's silver there too. I pulled an 1894 Barber half out of a place like this, right next to the curb.

My only concern is really the people in the area. In a small amount of cases people do call up when you're even working the area between the sidewalk and street which is public property in most states. This is much bigger than a strip so I was thinking about working it in the early morning which of course people can still see me OR work in after 8PM when it's dark out but that might attract attention too when they see a guy swinging something in your hands with a headlamp on your head. If anything the headlamp would get me noticed. I could always use the red light on it for night vision. Hmmm, now I no why KellyCo sells nightvision apparatus although their stuff is impractical for what I need. Something like Special forces uses, heehee. Like night vision glasses. I'm honestly a little leary of it. I know when I did some demo sidewalks people could've cared less, some even wished me luck. I was a little leary of that too but it worked out good.

Another thing too is I have have not had much practice on grass although I do know from reading how to dig and replace the dirt and compact the plug hard in the hole so air doesn't get to roots. My pinpointing will have to be dead on. I've been doing beach work lately so digging trenches wasn't a problem there. I am going to do it though as it's too tempting to let it go and I have a good feeling about the place. Worst thing that could happen is the police could stop by and check me out and tell me to leave as it would be a nuisance for them to keep coming over and checking out this "weird guy digging in the park." I sometimes make mountains out of molehills.

I always check with the city to make sure it is not private property and if it is okay. When things check out I put on a bright orange construction vest...people wont bother you...think you are marking gas lines or something like that...I usually go early in the morning on a saturday. If you add a note book and stick some marker flags in you back pocket that would be even better.

The part about about checking it as private property is something to consider but the moment I find out it's owned by the city then I am not asking because not many people no what MD is and their bureaucratic reply will be no. It's like asking people if I can do the spot between the sidewalk and the street in front of their house, most people are going to so no when in actuality they have no say in the matter because that I know is public property.

The orange construction vest and such is a good idea. I might even put a slogan on the back, "Keep it clean, make your city proud!" Heehee. When in reality I am raping the ground of historical things "of significance" because I am maniac with a childish penchant for digging with treasures in view, heehee. You can grow from a boy into a man, but the little boy inside us men never dies!

What the h@&% is there to think about? It looks likes to me to be city property for the most part and unless this place has a no detecting law on the books then I would have been there in a heart beat. All they can do is tell you that you can't detect there and if it comes to that then ask to see a no metal detector law on the books. Local police can find that out for you as our club found out detecting areas like that in another city from where we live. Stop burning daylight and start digging and take some pictures of your finds and post them. I'm sure we all would like to see what those grassy areas could be hiding. HH. Have you left yet?:detecting:

I have worked the curbside spots before and home curbside aren't as productive as commerial building curbside. In my experience of curbside hunting that I think the Church (those old church with no parking lots) curbside is the most productive curbside for me. Also be sure to have at least 5 inch coil or smaller handly because curbside seem to be the most trashy as well too. I think when street cleaners come clean the street and those little bitty metal doesn't get sweep up so they get blow into the grass along the curbsite.
