I have the F5 and nobody talks any more about it! Man I have been digging up some stuff, I am rather upset that everyone here is stuck on the F 75
Not all of us can afford that and I want to hear from down to earths.
Do we have to separate the 70-75 users to learn about the F 2 F4 and F5.
Sometimes I feel like the F70 and 75 users are better than me on this forum, and maybe there are, but I am just getting started, and maybe I don't want to hear about your $ 1000.00 tool and would like to hear about getting started, The difficulties we are having with the F5 and the stock coil are fun enough.!!!

bobby!,,generally,the reason(s) people want the f-75 l.t.d,and to a lesser extent,the "standard"
f-75,is because MOST of us have been in the hobby a long time,and those who have purchased the
the fishers,AND the t2's want all the power,and features they can get to find coins and relics!
in other words,they are looking for the "edge",and want the very "best" equipment available
to "maximize"their hunts!..simple as that!

Well Bobby sorry you feel that way, But in a way its up to the users of those machines to post! Myself I used a F-2 up to two months ago( there is no settings on it except notch and sensitivity bars) I saved up and bought a F-70. I found alot of cool things with the F-2 including a 1898 IH and I use it as a back up and my son hunts with it now. If you have questions all you have to do is ask, I found out personally that people on here will are more than happy to answer questions. They helped me figure out my new machine( discrim,thres,ect,) and I am enjoying it greatly. Cant wait to see your finds Happy hunting :detecting: Stryker
 
I used the F5, and posted an extensive field report on it when I got it when it first came out. Used it for some time, it was a good machine, BUT it left me wanting more (especially depth, which is essential in a lot of California).

There's lots of F5 users here, hopefully they'll chime in. Perhaps you should post what specifically it is you're looking for regarding your F5 :shrug:
 
bobby, My understanding is that this forum is for all series F users, i.e. F2 through to F75 Ltd. I guess that anyone who has an F serioes detector can post here...sometimes there will be replies to your posts, sometimes not, that is my experience. It's very seldom that someone asks a question about any of the mentioned detectors without someone chiming in with an answer...that is also my experience. I dont understand why you are so upset.
It doesn't matter which detector you have or how much experience you have, my guess is that if your post is legitimate and/or interesting, you'll receive replies. HH
 
Bobby,I have the f5 also.as stated. The f5 is getting older and almost all the ? About it have been asked. Do a search and you will get a lot of good reading . If you need something just ask. Were here with ya man! And the f75 guys are us years down the road.

I am just trying to get more input on the F5. There just aint enough info on here from our members. Besides from Mike Hillis. Some folks just use have input on the F 5. That saddens me.!

The F5 has been out for about two years now and in that time there have been a whole lot of F5 posts. Granted, not as many as the F75. But that's because there are a lot more posters here who use the F75 than those who use the F5. The price of their detector has absolutely nothing to do with someone being "down to earth" or not.

Research is an important part of being a successful dirt fisher and going back in the history of this forum to look for F5 posts is easy research. If you see an old thread and you want to add to it that would be great.:cheers:

Your right I sometimes get frustrated easily. And forgive me for some unrelated off topic things that were respectfully removed.
I have had alot of fun with my F5 this summer and will pass on something I learned searching Mike on a post from a few years back- On the F5 from my experience also, even if you have iron and foil notched out you can still pick up large steel like a automotive gas cap or an old break shoe and so on.
But it was said that when you know your in a trashy area, you can also notch out the 50 cent tab to help reduce the large objects that you might not want to dig and still stay in your control setting mode, like I some times do is run at # 20 looking for rings.
 
Bobby I noticed that also. Got the F70 and the F75LTD came out and very little posts on the F70 after that. When Omega came out even less posts on the F70. So I just started to post on the F70. More and more people started to reply to my posts and F70 posts started to show up again.
Maybe you should post some of your finds with the F5. Make sure the F5 is in the subject. I will bet you will have replies and watch some posts with the F5 start to come up. Only guessing???? Thanks for the post and thanks for reading and Happy Trails Bobby... Z
 
Bobby look back at some of the other posts on the F5, there was a lot of discussion at one point on how to vet out the large pieces of iron using the FE304 meter.
 
Bobby, It can be frustrating when you're trying to learn your detector. A couple of the blokes advised looking back in the posts for F5 posts, and that's good advice....my recollection is that about 12 months ago there were many many posts on the F5. I think that Zeekeys is right too, when he said that if you make a few posts on the F5, people will respond. Try relating some of your own experiences, and slip in any questions you might have. Generally, people want to help, and most of us remember when we had new machines which we were trying to learn, (like yesterday).:)HH
 
Bobby, I, too, am a newbie (probably newer than you!). I did buy an F75, but, it sure doesn't make me any better than you...in any way. You have some 'life lessons' to learn, my friend. First of all, there isn't anyone any better than you. Just because someone has better/more toys or more money, doesn't make them any better than me or you and you can take that to the bank! I learned a long time ago that "rich" is nothing more than being happy with what you have.

I haven't been on this forum very long, but, everyone seems very friendly and very willing to help. Just ask your questions......I'm betting you will get your answers!
 
I have an F75, but my hunting partner hunts with the F5. I will tell you that ain't no slacker machine. My hunting partner digs the silvers, Buffalo, and 3 ringers just like I do. It comes down to how you have the F5 setup. With the right settings that baby will smoke.
 
I see where your coming from. Not many post these days on the F5. But It's still out there finding stuff. I own one and haven't had it out much this summer. Mike hasn't been using his much these days . At least that's what I read in a post sometime ago. And a lot of people have jumped to the Teknetics Omega which is the brother to the F5. They say it's easier to use with a bit more depth. But those in the know like NASA Tom say they're so close in performance that either one will do well and have the same depth on coin sized targets. May be others will start posting their finds they've made with there F5's.
 
I was out yesterday evening with my F5 and the park has been hit but I got two quarters, two dimes and some pennies along with an old Hot Wheel, The more I use my F5 and it's settings the more I am learning whats under the ground.
 
Hi - I have the F5, bought it recently and am quite impressed - definitely the best user interface ever and you really know what is going on all the time.

I've been detecting ten years or so. Mainly in England, I'm English, but also in France. I've had many different detectors over the years and the F5 is the only one that has really grabbed me (apart from the Sov xs 2A-Pro - though that is heavy and slow and has terrible recovery after nulling on ferrous).

I can run at 80 to 90 gain over here and I keep the threshold at +1 or +2. The reason is that we have some very tiny hammered coins - the cut quarter springs to mind, and if you run threshold into the minuses you are filtering out tiny items - though good for your trash sites I think.

Here's a thing - when I first went out on my first trial with it, on my second signal I got a clear ferrous but with a high tight good tone if I jiggled a bit. Pinpoint showed a large-ish object. I was irritated as I thought that I would be digging ferrous that gives off good tones all the time. Well, I dug it of course and it was the very corroded front face of a padlock but with a small brass keyhole attached - so the machine was correct - this made me very confident in the F5 (and happy).

And it is true that there is little written about the F5 - it is rather new in the UK and not many people have them - assuming that by paying twice as much they will find twice as much stuff, but this isn't the case. I have seen folks with explorers and F75's and high end White's worrying at a signal, digging really deep and worrying at it again, all to find a corroded something or other - whilst I have gone on to get 5 or 7 good signals, dug and collected - I look back and there they are, digging the same hole.

The F5 goes much deeper than a plough blade and that is good enough for me - I really like this machine.
 
and did I say how much I like the F5 (lol). I don't know if it is the same over there but over here there is a huge status for some people in owning an expensive machine .. an inbuilt belief that more expensive definitely means better - but with the new processors and so on I really don't think that this is necessarily true anymore - if it ever was.

In the end you cannot cheat the laws of physics

It reminds me of 40 odd years ago when toyota and Datsun hit the American auto market. the "big three" Ford, GM, and Chrysler were making cars that you had best think of selling when they got near 100,000 miles on them because they were about done. Then Toyota and Datsun came into the market with cars and trucks that would hit 250,000 miles and just keep on going... NOW... today... the technology had spread all through the auto industry and it seems that all cars and trucks just keep on going, low price and high price, they all seem to run forever and they all get you where you want to go.

That's the thing about technology (excepting some breakthrough patented thing) all detectors or products benefit and they all get better, I think it gets to the point where there would be no meaningful savings financially for a company to make a detector with lesser parts because the new technology is so cheap and plentiful.

The Omega-8000 is another machine that is about as good as anything i've used. I think it is a close relative of the F5, from what i've read. I guess at this point it is mostly tweaking on the part of manufacturers to make detectors that are not better but are more specialized until that next leap in technology comes. IIRC, MLs patent on BBS should expire soon and we should get other manufacturers take on BBS. That could be interesting.
Someone posted that ML has a contract with the Australian govt to produce a machine that truly shows the shape of a target... that will be a game changer unless it is priced too high.

I agree though, technology has pretty much evened the playing field and too much technology at the fingertips can and will be counterproductive. I have found myself sometimes spending too much time trying this and that over a target instead of just digging it or leaving it.

My problem is that I like detectors as much as I like detecting... I love them all.
