This Forum is the first on my list of forums I visit regularly, but it's just been dead.

Is it because it has been too hot and dry for most to get out hunting?

Have the LCD display models captured everyone's desire and all the excellent White's analog display units are sitting in a closet?

90% of my hunting is in the deep woods so winter is my hunting season up here in Washington state. I have been doing a little beach hunting to keep me active but I've been using my other favorite anolog detector, my Compass Gold Scanner Pro most of the time on the beaches.

While for some unknown reason this Forum has been extremely slow, many of the other forums have been slower than normal too! The heat and dryness down here in South Texas has slowed my hunting this summer. I think gas prices have been a factor too! The LCD display metal detectors with the multi-tone I.D. are also a factor, especially now that the XL Pro has been discontinued. Who really knows? Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas)

As for me Fall and Spring are my best of times. I like to hunt old farm sites, which are in crops at this time. That and the extreme hot dry weather prohibits any searching of peoples lawns. Don't want to upset homeowners with that ugly brown spot left in their lawn. Hang on a month and I would bet you will start to see more activity.

I have to admit I have just been checking out this forum to see what people have been finding. I usually use my DFX to hunt on a regular bases. I almost sold my XLPRO a couple of months ago, but decided to hang on for awhile. I started hunting an area where my DFX just wouldn't work right. Right under a major grid system of electrical power lines! Knew there just had to be some old coins in the area. This area has been in use since the early 1900's. I decided to give my XLPRO a try. I started out with the stock coil and just had no luck. Then I gave my Jimmy sierra, Eliminator coil a try. The ground just came alive. Have been finding Silver dimes and wheat pennies. Oldest dime so far has been a 1917 Merc. and wheat was a 1934. Looking for the big silver to pop up any day now. Almost forgot about my war nickle.
I'll start posting my finds next time I find something with my XLPRO. Just didn't think anyone would be interested in Wheaties and dimes!
Sad thing about the Eliminator coil is that it is currently unavailable on the Jimmy Sierra web site!

It's about first on my list too. Been fooling with several detectors after being basically out of action for (gasp!) more than ten years .. two or three old Compass units, a CZ 3D, ID Edge, 6000 Di Pro Plus, and found a good deal on a XL Pro ....mastering none of them, of course, and I'm not good for many hours at a stretch these days. Mostly, I puttered along with green machines before. I never had a clue to how much iron there is in the ground in this area until I cranked up the 3D. My Lord ! I usually reach for the 3D first and haven't spent much time with the XL at all ... partly because of all the #!*?@ shallow rusty bottle caps. The White's seem to be absolutely queer for these things and claim they are 'hi coins' most of the time. I confess I haven't done a lot of experimenting with them - mostly I just get the 3D which usually reveals them by not repeating on the back swing. The Edge seems to claim they are either a silver dollar or an anvil, or maybe both. I would be interested to know what the Big Boys do to make the XL reveal the truth about well rusted bottle caps !

You probably know by now you can sweep the Pro very fast. If you sweep it fairly quickly it will tell you it's a rusted bottle cap with a worbaly sound. That's the best I can describe it WORBALY. Just a very little practice and you'll have it figured out. I have an area which is loaded with those @#$% bottle caps also and I'm telling you it works. Now if I could get someone to help me eliminate flattened aluminum cans I would be real happy. I realize you should be able to tell by the size of the target, but these are sometimes 10 or more inches deep and don't make that big of a target. I can't wait until the crops get out of the field as that's what I like. No modern day crap to dig.
The Pro is Awesome!! I've got a Sovereign GT and a Xterra 50 but haven't mastered either one as the Pro has treated me very well.

This forum does have a limited user base. Most involved with detecting now requiring a metered unit, have them with digital screens. Because of this our data base, or should I say our information base, get

Hi Monte did some testing with my XL Pro against four of my other detectors. Was doing a nickel pulltab test, being as some tabs register as nickels. The XLPro was the only one to id the tab and nickel correctly. Love the meter on this machine.
