I didn't find much..but.........................

The depth on the T2 6.5 is very very impressive. I dug a small round metal trash object that was a good 7" and when I say small I mean less than a Quarter inch in diameter.. The area is next to a River, and it floods a lot around it. So items do tend to go deep in the muck and soft ground.. I dug a 1983 Quarter at 9". Sens at 60, Tones 3b.. Discrimination mode of course. My standard T2 does not have anywhere close to the power of the 6.5. I also want to mention it is very quiet operational machine too. I just got this one, and it's the first time I used it.. My other 6.5 is close but not as quiet, or deep..Anyone have an explaination why three T2's could be so different in operation........The manual that comes with the 6.5 's are still the manual that came with T2 standards..So if changes were made Tek isn't saying..

You probably broke one in hotter then the other ones. Remember when we used to drive a new car harder during its break in period so it would be faster then normal. The same works with detectors, you know! HH jim tn

I have a friend who uses an early T2 and is quite satisfied with the performance. My personal T2 is the 6.5 version and he says he notices a little improved performance from mine. I haven't toyed with his because I only use my T2 for certain applications. Maybe that's because I have more than one detector choice at hand? :) I offered to loan my T2 to another friend when he goes on vacation as he wants to put in a week or two comparing it to his current detectors. He's a bit baffled at how the T2 can weigh practically nothing, balance so well, work on only 4 AA batteries, and not have a heavy, awkward coil even though it's over 11" from front to rear.

Yes, the T2's have proven to be excellent performing detectors now for a number of years in a variety of different hunting environments, and I know I've been quite satisfied with the performance of the 6.5 version I own. Many makes and models go through some 'revisions' and we never know about it so it's nice to be able to check the version of T2 in hand, but overall I doubt there has been all that much change to make a dramatic difference in performance. As for one particular specimen, even of the same version, showing a little difference in stability or depth or other things is not uncommon as there will be some differences in component tolerance as well as a little difference from one coil to another.

Since you have two 6.5 version T2's have you swapped the coils, at the same location, and compared their performance on the same located deep target, side-by-side, while using both coils on one detector? You might, or might not, see a difference. Then, too, I have to admit that while we see a little difference from unit to unit today with so much digital design, it sure isn't as bad as what I used to notice between a lot of analog models.

Just keep finding those small targets and enjoy the results your T2 provides. :) As for me, we've got a lot of wet headed out way so i am out the door with my :teknetics: to hit an old home renovation site before the dirt becomes a muddy mess. I'm out the door!!!! :detecting:

Monte,
This has probably been asked a dozed times before, but I am considering the T2 and wanted to ask how to tell which version it is, standard, 6.5 etc. Thanks in advance

With the T2 turned 'Off,' you press the Menu button and flip the trigger toggle forward, then hold them in that position when you turn the T2 'On.' That will show the version, such as 6.5 on the display.

No I have not tried the two coils on each detector yet. I will, and give a report. I do however notice a much improved performance on the New T2 6.5.... If it proves out one coil is better than the other. I will send the lesser coil in for checking by First Texas..

I broke a few in like that..and a few blew up . Lol... The 389 GTO could not take it..

Two silver coins, Three Wheats, and 5 nickles... All at 5 to 7" with plenty of power to spare.Could raise the coil up several inches and still get same reading. This T2 is deep.. I did notice that when the target is Silver..The sound is a much harder hit.. a difference in sounds from clad.. ID's dead on..and I am happy to say This 6.5 T2 has the depth measure thats accurate...if it says 5 or 6 it's 5 or 6..not two or three or maybe deeper like some of the T2 and F75 models I have had or still have.

Elton, good finds today. It does sound like you got yourself one hot T 2. Hummm, sure gets one to thinking on why the difference between two 6.5 versions in the same ground. Nice silvers today. HH jim tn

I swear this 6.5 is as deep as the Cameo F75 LTD.. and much more stable.. I can run Sens 80.disc 10 to 40, tones 3 or 3b and it's silent search till a target hits.. At 85 it's still pretty quiet but does start to see some deeper small pieces that it sounds off on..By deeper I mean several inches deeper on some tabs and small small metal objects. the Id is amazing rock solid. Locks on and does not jump around....If I take disc up to 50 I get overdrive and a little more noise..but nothing you can't stand..It feels different at 50 and above too. Targets are hitting really hard..Silver hits harder no matter what the Sens and disc..but at 50 disc they really sound off..It's almost like the BP mode on the F75 LTD..You like the extra depth but you also don't like the little bit of unstable noise the setting causes.. Overall it's stable..depth reads right in pinpoint, small targets are hitting well, coins. it just will not miss one.. and depth is awesome at 80 sens..That's where in my soil it is rock solid operation with great depth.. I just wonder what was changed in the 6.5 to make it so much better than original T2 and ,or earlier 6.5.models......... Jim you heard this machine over the phone as I played with settings..so you know it has the abilities I am saying it has...........I have no doubts if I find an unhunted area and even some hunted sites that has a lot of Silver still in the ground..it will be in my pouch ( Pocket)..I hunt simple.. Jeans and shirt........ Digger and Probe..no fancy belts, Camel hats, or things hanging off me all over LOL hahahahahahahhaha....Just not my cup of tea..LOL

You know, Elton, if I didn't know better, I would be thinking you are talking about my Omega.:) No, I believe you just got the latest of something and ended up with a very hot T 2. I do wear a apron, but beyond that, just a digger and detector for me. I do need an apron with two big pockets, though. HH jim tn

You got a hot one...and add that with your outstanding abilities of "HOW to use it" Thats a win-win in my opinion..

Tried each coil on the other machine. Machines worked as they always did. One is deeper, and more stable..no matter the coil.
