I do not like colored detectors !

:cool: When I go metal detecting I don't want a bright colored detector attracting attention! Especially yellow :surprised: The camouflaged detectors make the most sense followed by black. I want my machine to look like a ,...well,...MACHINE,...and NOT a toy!!!! And yes contrary to popular opinion it DOES matter to a lot of detectorists what the unit looks like! It is a matter of pride in your hobby. Just my opinion. HH from RDF, :cool::detecting:
 
I'm Kinda new at this but I do have to say I'm not sure I like the Bright yellow Machine screaming at everyone saying ,"Look at me here I am"..I'm trying to be discreet .Thats why I cut up my black Sunday school socks and wrapped ole yeller up.
 
I like to think of myself as rational and reasonably intelligent.

And no rational and reasonably intelligent person would let something as superficial as color sway their decision, right?

Well I guess I'm not so rational and intelligent.

Because I know the Ace 250 is a good machine and a fine value.

But when I see that Ace something not so rational and intelligent deep inside me says, "That bright yellow is hideous!"
 
Not just the detector housing itself, or the rod, but also some coils can stick out:blink:

You know..you're right. In 1975 White's was slate blue with a white search coil. Virtually every piece of high-end test equipment I use at work has colors. It certainly doesn't indicate a toy. What does though it the box the Explorer II shipped in... that thing is Brady Bunch funny!!
 
A machine that doesn't stand out does tend to look more professional. When I used the CZ-5, people would often think I was working for the city or was an independent contractor. This happens to a degree when I use my SE but not nearly as much. I like it that way, as I'm not really out to socialize when I hunt.

Tesoro "Vaquero" side panel colors = Purple!

Say what? I no longer have that machine due to financial issues.
But I liked it and the great finds I made, except for one damn thing!
The purple color.
Got me a damn aftermarket control cover pronnnnto!

Come on people, what self respecting cowboy (vaquero is Spanish for cowboy) would have for instance a purple saddle?
Let alone a 30-30 lever action saddle rifle with purple side panel colors.

I did liked the Tesoro change over to the blue-ish grey colors but not the purple.
I don't remember being part of any gay-pride-metal detecting group, at least I don't remember signing up with that club...:)

And by the way, I think it is just fine if someone who is gay goes metal detecting.
That is not the issue for me. The issue is that if I wanted to wear purple then I would by some purple shirts or pants.
Or maybe accessorize my detecting gear with a purple finds pouch or maybe with a purple-handled digging tool:)

We've got lots of reactions here.

Let's put it another way : What would you think if your Canon-Nikon-Pentax-Sony-Panasonic-Samsung-or whatever DSLR was PURPLE or YELLOW instead of black ?

I just think metal detectors should be treated the same "serious" way the DSLR's are.

But let me state I respect the color fans. Just don't like it for my own equipment.

I had a HH wader that was blue, my wife wanted one in pink!! Yes, she is a girly-girl. Also a good way to keep me from using it all the time,lol. I have and old 1265x that was spray painted camo for ahem, unknown reasons.... I happen to like the brighter upbeat colors, but it can be an attention getter, unwanted sometimes. I know why garrett uses the green/yellow combo- tradition! I'm also sure it's to avertise the units to a new market of younger hunters, hence new customers. Also Green and Yellow is PACKERS!!!!!!!!! Go Green!
 
Just my opinion but Earth Tone Detectors are more presentable when detecting.. Whites Black is good. Fisher Gold and Black is good.

I never liked Garrett Green, I surly did not like the Purple Tesoro's, and I don't care for the bright Yellow Garretts either.
 
As long as a detector works well the color doesn't matter. The detector in the photo is the one I use probably 75 percent of the time. It's a modified A.&.S Treasure Baron - same as the first Kellyco Cobra II made by Discovery Electronics - mounted upside down on a Minelab upper rod with a Fisher lower rod and a Garrett GTA 1000 armrest. Pretty it's not, but it works:).

As long as it finds silver, gold, copper, relic or anything it's supposed to, I don't care what color it is. Cover it with duct tape. I have two B/Hs (black) and two Whites (blue).
