I don't get it.

Hello all. 34 years ago my brother lost his class ring in a Snow Ball fight on the Church grassy area and possibly into the backyard of the house next door. I remember he borrowed my Relco Fronterisman I'd purchased in 1972, no luck. Tried my Ace 250 last summer, got tired of finding crap.

Here is the search site:
https://www.google.com/maps/@38.6329333,-95.8256557,3a,75y,70.5h,67.74t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sGziujjE2i8G4Xxb5LvxCng!2e0!6m1!1e1

I have the replacement ring he bought which is the exact same as the original. Last Thursday I tried Etrac using coin mode but there was too much crap in the ground. Tried ID'ng the ring and setting up a search only pattern but couldn't figure out how to do that.

So, how would you folks go about finding the ring? Air test is 12-32 and up to 12-37 somtimes. Mostly 12-32 and 12-34.

Thanks.

Quite a divergence from your original post.............

In theory , by using your edit function button and the disc keys you can set up a pattern that will disc out everything besides a reasonable number of signals surrounding your desired target. However , you're gambling the ring is sitting by itself without another piece of metal or sufficient minerals near by that would skew the air test numbers to a point you would actually be discing it out. Best to just hunt the area for the right sounding good tones and dig. Gold sounds better than aluminum but you will still be surprised when you get it.
If it landed next to chunk of iron you may never be able to find it

Thanks. I'll stay with the stock coin mode.

Yes I get discourged with the Etrac. I'll bury the class ring 4 inches and see what it sounds like. I've got permission from the church and the home next door has been in forclosure for years. My brother and another kid were killed in the same car Jan. 12 1980, I think the original ring was lost around November-December 1978. It would be fun to find it. The grass in the church yard is that tough rooted Bermuda.

The stock coin pattern on the Etrac has the upper right top line blacked out, that is where the most silver comes in. You have to go into edit mode and make it clear up there. Silver halves and dollars come in from the upper right all the way down to half way on extreme right of screen.......nge
