I FINALLY dug the one HIGH $$ Injun that has eluded me ...and L@@K at it...

It's NASTY. I tied my best ever one day Injun total with 7...and in only a 4 hour hunt. Wouldn't you know they are all at least G to VG EXCEPT the one I wanted. Finally I popped out the scarce 1872 that books at $300 in F-12....$125 in VG-8....even $75 in G-4. HOWEVER I would have to grade the one I found as C-1 (CRAPPY):detecting: :bouncy: It looks like half of it was sitting in fertilizer for many years now. Back in the early 80's I found the 1877...but this 1872 has eluded me until now.

Oh well....to be honest it really doesn't matter... as I found it..and that's what counts. It also has a very clear date which is what I do like about it.

I met up with a hunting buddy...Deeponedge... and the soil in this park was definately not kind to these injuns. He also found 3- 1800's injuns...but all of them were nasty too. It's a shame...'cause if the 1872 was anywhere as nice as the 1865...It's a $75 coin at worst. Oh well...I said that didn't matter didn't I??:bouncy:

This park was obviously beaten to submision over the years because I never even found a wheatie. ...and neither did Darrel. All of the coins I found were 8" to 9"...except for the 1865..which was right at 10" deep.:surprised: To be honest...that's why I love hunting a pounded to death park...because all the shallow targets to as deep as 7" targets are usually gone. That leaves only the deepies that everyone else obviously walked over..and for a reason. They're either deep...next to trash......standing on edge...etc. You really have to pay attention to faint chirps....then investigate those chirps.

One of the Barbers was right at 9"...and it gave the weakest "warbly" chirp. It only hit nice in one or two directions..but the sound I like was definately there. I never rely on cursor placement...because at depth...it just isn't as accurate as the sound given...at least to me anyway. When I went to all metal pinpoint to check it....the cursor still wasn't locking anywhere...BUT the sweet sound was good enough for me to try the target...so I dug. It ended up being at an angle off to the bottom side of the hole....so I'm glad I did. When you're having a good day...it's a Barber.:super: On a bad day it would have been a rusty nail.:bouncy:

I can't wait to go back sometime and see if I can't pull out a "fatty" injun. I know I walked over a couple of hits that sounded just between pulltab and injun. I tried a couple of them...and sure enough...pulltab. I remember though...I dug my first fatty this year...and that's exactly where it hit. When injuns with these dates I was finding are popping out...it would definately be worth investigating some of the low conductor hits next time.:beers:

I ended up with 7 injuns...1865...1872....1886...2- 1892's...1898..and one 18?? Also the two Barbers...1907...and 1911.:wiggle:
Thanks for viewing and good luck on your next hunt.

Just seeing the years of age and deterioration that these coins express excites me to get out and go hunting! Bryce, you've done very well as always. You will find the ones you seek with the determination and skills that you have with your Explorer. Hope things are getting better with you. It is said that "Time heals all wounds"...Metal Detecting sure helps it along. Great finds!

Fantastic Bryce, you got some nice ones there.

The "fatty" cents will come in a lot lower because of the copper-nickel composition than the bronze Indians. I'm sure it is just a matter of time before you get those too. :clapping:

Nice finds Bryce,

Bet you have had your coil over a bunch of fatties. But they do hit right in pull tab range. I've only got a few over the years but seem to remember they generally hit harder and more consistent than trash; unless they are deep, next to trash, etc. Wonder how many low denomination gold coins we've all missed for the same reasons.

WOW 1872 INJUN :yikes: IN ANY SHAPE IS A AWESOME FIND, TWO NICE BARBERS TO GO WITH IT MAKES IT A GOOD DAY...HH...PHIL.

Nice finds there Bryce:clapping: Better circle all the wagons with all those injuns.:surrender: Too bad that 72 wasn't in better condition, but a great find just the same and those barbers are pretty cool also. Just curious, but what machine and coil are you using? HH buddy.

Hey Bryce, You and that SE are like best of friends!! Great finds, like always!! Just curious what coil you was using. Keep it going!! EddieB

off of my SE in many weeks. I also have the pro coil...but no way the SEF coil is coming off right now ...with what it has been popping out of the ground for me. Take care buddy.

using the 10 x 12 SEF coil for many weeks now without taking it off. I would like to put some time on the pro coil too...but the SEF coil has become a deep injun finder for me..so no way it's coming off right now. If there's anything left at some of these sites...the SEF coil has been doing a nice job of sniffing it out for me. Thanks for responding and good luck on your next hunt.

walked over quite a few fatties...but I didn't find my first until just a couple of months ago so I didn't know what one sounded like. I remember specifically that it hit right in the pulltab area...but I had just dug a couple of other injuns that hit lower too...so I dug it. No way I dig those types of hits at most sites...but if I'm at a beat up place...or a place that I know injuns have been found....I'm definately going to start trying some of those lower hits. I just don't have the time..or knees...lol...to dig the lower hits. At certain places though...I'll give them a shot. I'm getting "hooked" on concentrating on the unique injun hit sound now. I like finding them just as much if not more...than silver

start concentrating more on lower hits...but only at sites I know have a history of coughing up deep injuns. I honestly don't have the time to dig low nickel hits...but I'll definately start trying a few of the injun/pulltab type hits at a place that older injuns have popped out of. Take care buddy

your response. This was an amazing 4 hours..and after I had six at the about the 3 hour mark...I decided I was not going home until I had found #7 to tie my record:laugh:..
I was truly hoping for an injun...and NOT a silver at that point. You will probably never hear me say that again:bouncy:.
Take care my friend...and good luck on your next hunt

poppin' out more OLDER injuns with the 10 x 12 SEF coil in the last few weeks than I did all last year. The great thing about that fact is that last year was my best year ever for injuns.:clapping: This year is going to end up even better:thumbup:

Geez! You've got some incredible talent Bryce. I've been watching and reading your posts for quite some time now and you've got a good sense for deep coins for sure. I'm sure good sites help too. I'm not so lucky to have as many older sites to work with were I live. I should be a nugget hunter.

Thanks for posting and sharing your finds and good luck with future hunts.

I'm glad you enjoy the posts and I wish you luck on your future hunts. I try and hit sites that have been pounded...but that have also been known to give up some oldies. I would rather hunt 3 hours and find just one oldie..than dig a pocketfull of shallow stuff. It has become a great challenge for me at some of these places. Take care buddy...and thanks for responding
