OK first off I would cross save relic audio to coins then set up where I disc out the highest possible vdi number. Disc out below -4
Run sens high as possible noise cancel about an in above clear ground. You will be surprised at the depth. I hit dimes regularly. At 9+ ins. When I had the quattro. Now remember minelab fbs is always in salt comp mode so you should see great results. HH. C t ps don't use high trash in high sense. As a matter of fact don't use high trash till you're confident with the machine. Elton also keep in mind that the Safari like all minelab fbs units operates not in 28 transmitted. And recieved frequencies at all times this is a common misconception. Depending on the noise cancel channel selected will dictate the operating frequency I have a channel vs freq chart somewhere. So depending on channel will determine depth say on a dime!!!!!! Unlike say a v3. Which transmit and recieved 3 freq. Simultaneously the quattro safari explorer etrac will not ITs operating frequency is CONTINGENT ON CHANNEL SELECTED.

I owned an se pro,.and Etrac. I'm pretty sure owning those detectors helped me understand the workings of the Safari better than starting new on one.. Appreciate the simplicity of the operation. Appreciate the depth, and basic adjustments for max performance.
This is a no slouch detector I found out today.. Simple yes............ lacking in depth..NO .it has as much as any Minelab I have ever used.......

That about sums it up. And Sir as I mentioned earlier cross saving fe or cond. Audio to the search modes makes it awesome cond audio in relic the best coin jewelry mode I ever used bar none. Glad you like it I knew you would as you loved the etrac!!! No loss in preformance at all. Fbs is fbs HH c t
The secrete to this detector seems to be swing speed like almost all the multi frequency Minelabs . Slow......... You can swing it brisk. But you do miss some targets.
I tried some different speeds today.........and then went back over the same ground swinging differently. First kind of normal speed. Hit some targets.
Second slower. Hit more targets I missed swinging it faster. Then I really slowed down and the Safari shined. Found two silver coins I missed the first two swing speeds..
One was a Rosie 1957 dime at 8" easily...and the detector sounded off loud and clear reading 38/39 ......... One was a Mercury no date lawn mower torn up dime.. 4" deep......... read 35/ 36/ 37 depending on direction.. with a flash of 38 one way... The coin is bent and torn up.......
I noticed slower helps the shoulder fatigue too.. Brisk swings brings on shoulder aches. Slower seems to stop that issue..
One other thing I noticed. I'm not par-say a ring hunter so when I saw the icon reading foil and the number 9 on the screen I dug a few to see for myself. By gosh all 4 times it was small pieces of foil.. I was almost always fooled on the E-Trac by foil.. The Safari seems to be able to ID most of it with the number, and icon. I didn't dig anymore foil today after seeing the number, and icon that was very accurate.. I liked that !!
I was fooled by some screw caps they read 36 to 40 depending on the flattened out stage they were in.. Not really an issue though...
Does anyone know where Indian Head pennies fall on the Safari meter ??????
I like the detector..I just hope I can swing it.I do have some shoulder problems from last summers E-trac swinging. That isn't fun hurting for three days after you detect. So far so good with the safari. If I hurt it will be gone no matter how good I think it is.. LOL....... Another thing..I noticed I could always see the screen even in the sun..not like the other detectors that the sun is an issue ..............
Oh I was running coins mode with sens set at 16 .....I forgot to try the auto while detecting...

Most Indians that I have found came in at 34. Some of the newer ones like 07, 08, or 09 came in on 35 or 36. Must be a different composition

HH jim tnThis is the first year owning a Safari, sweeping slow is the best way to find all that's in the ground. Today I found 6 sliver coins, many wheats and one was a 1909. It seems the slower you sweep the better the Safari runs, not as noisy if your running any discriminate. I have found it better for me to make my own discriminate and save it in Relic so you have the sound in Ferris. Then iron gives you a low sound and coins give a high tone, seems to work best for me. I discriminate everything from 0 to -10. So far this year I have found $2.20 in silver. Still getting use to the sounds but getting use to knowing what is a good target.

Reading through this forum starting with the Quattro,and then with the introduction of Safari, you'll find similar questions and concerns we've all experienced and are still learning from...... WTG, Elton,,, Silver is always good..

On my 11" pro coil with cover,, I have snapped on a 11" Tesoro solid coil cover,, just a fit,
then slide it along on the grass...In wet grass, you will have to dump the water out,, from time to time..
You might also think of swingy thing, or a Detecting Pal from Detector Pro,, they are like $30...

I can agree that slow is the way to go. Since reading everyone's advice on going slow I have slowed WAAAY down. Barely dragging the coil along. And in my own front yard, an area that I learned the safari, as well as my ace 250 years ago, I have found musket balls, jewelry and flat buttons centuries old in areas I have been over hundreds of times before literally. It is a different detector entirely if you have the patience to go very slow and let it do what it does. That is find stuff at great depths, masked by iron, and at odd angles in the ground. Just go slow and let it's technology do the rest. You just have to learn to listen. Best of luck!
