My thought for the day........If I or we as a group cannot change the rules for metaldetecting......then what would it take to convince the laws........I love to detect.....I don't want to break any laws.......most laws are not outlined "No metaldetecting" but use a loop hole called no defacing the park........with this creeping up on US......what about the dealers and manufactures going to do about it.......hello........this is there bread and butter.....with this kind of influence and our support of them can we change things?......something has to be done real soon.......or say goodby to detecting forever!....
So please I am begging you large manufactures to say something and use the dough to get things changed or you will be unemployed very soon....

Doug this is a bad situation...
Way back about 1978 before I got into metal detecting; my wife and I saw a guy detecting for the first time in our lives.
He was with his son, in a local park and was using a very early Whites...
His digging implement was a large shovel, and he dug a full shovel of turf out at every signal !!!
I thought at the time that this Richard Cranium is into a short lived hobby __ if this is how you do it...

If everyone who detected did the right thing and left no mark then no problems would occur.

We are lucky here Down-Under that we are somewhat behind you guys, and haven't YET reached your stage
in the evolution of detecting ~ I guess the day will come though!

Here in Australia I'm a member of the "Prospectors and Miners Association" we preach responsible mining and metal detecting
practices, we had a meeting a while back, and after this meeting we invited a group of conservationists out into the
goldfields bush to actually see what digging a detected target entailed....

These people thought that we were responsible for all the holes left by the gold rush guys of the 1850's to 1890's!

They observed three operators dig a few bullets etc, and re-cover their holes...
Well this was a revelation to them; as when they observed the digging of these targets and re-filling of the holes they
exclaimed "is that all you guys do."


Why I'm telling this tale Doug is to say that since they saw that we were responsible operators, we have been given access
to lands previously denied.

Is it possible that a group of responsible operators could be formed,
become recognised as responsible detectorists and therefore gain special permission to such areas ?

Or maybe I'm dreaming...

Well they must be doing the right thing up here on the Central Coast, because they have cleaned out most of the sports fields and there arn't any holes to be found anywhere . HH Bob

The federation Of metal Detecting is fighting constantly for rule changes.
Most if not all the Manufacturers contribute funds for the fight.

We as a people can bring about change through our Mayors, Councilmen, and at State level Politicians.
Call them, write letters, ask for changes and if you do it enough they will get it done..All Laws can be redone, and rewritten.
Laws can be repealed.............. If your Politicians do not do what you want remove them at the next election...
We the people do have the last say.It's just getting enough of "We the People" saying it....................................Pick an issue make it a priority and go for the change.............You have the power !!!!!
