I really hate it when people post Crap like this...

This was on another forum:

Here's a little tid-bit for all of you... and it's a true story only a few weeks old. Back in January, our local chapter of the GPAA held a meeting at a local church. A few members have the "White's VS. ML" battle going on and they took out both detectors and went over the church lot. I was impressed that the MXT out performed the Ex II!!!! It found more silver & it found more coins (wheats, mercs, etc. not just clad) deeper.

I was watching the ML operator pinpoint and he couldn't find the coin at the depth it indicated so... he wrote it off as junk and filled the hole. The MXT guy came over and found a wheat @ 4" in the side of his plug! I laughed out loud and proceeded to bust some butt on that one.

That has since convinced me that BOTH are great detectors BUT... White's detectors are way more user friendly. Ease of operation is where its at and a key selling point, IMO.

People Post crap without knowing anything about the Explorer and that really ticks me off!

<center> well I have seen it happen where a DFX could not pintpoint on the target at depth and minelab could :D
target was a large cent and called as one before it was dug up
things happen for sure ;)

First off, you know he's full of crap, or the guy was braindead and new with the Minelab...second, I want more people buying Whites detectors...looks like enough Explorers out there the way it is...Personally the more "other" Brand detectors I see, the HAPPIER I am!!

although the White's battle has grown tiresome - it is always easy to take a guy with little or no experience on a EX II and compare him to a seasoned vet on a White's.

the fact is there is no way a MXT will ever come close to touching as deep as the EX II. And from what I've seen - neither will the DFX. I hunt with guys who use both and are quite experienced with their machines. One guy who is damn good with his MXT took me to exact spot he found half reales. He couldn't find no more. Another guy with a EX II (newbee) tried and he couldn't find any either.

Well guess what - I found two of them there at 10" deep. This is a dime sized coin and very thin. The signal was clear and the digital reading was correct for a dime shaped object. I know for a fact DFX machines checked this area and they didn't find these two reales either. You draw your own conclusions.

The 1723 one reale I found was in an area that had a MXT and DFX coil go right over top of it. This was in a crop field - little trash and little excuses. It was on edge at about 8" deep. It rang out like a
bell to the EX II. Maybe the DFX wasn't adjusted properly but the quarter sized reale was passed over like it wasn't even there. Still I believe these are both good machines and will do very well in the field.

But I remain convinced they cannot compete depth wise with the EX II.
They may do other things better but finding the deepest targets goes to Minelab. And that's a fact jack! IMO

of course, we believe that one!
I call it Minelab envy - terrible disease. Makes a man want to come in here and discredit the Explorer. The only cure is to buy one too!

then some pretend they've purchased one and continue to bad mouth the machine. Or that they've sold it because they couldn't find anything with it. Then some get banned and return as a new handle. But we know who you are, and hopefully you'll find something else to do before we have to pull your mask off again. Go hug your old machine or whatever
you traded it in for, and give us a break!

besides you're not missing anything but iron nails and pulltabs - right guys? ;)

Ocean 7. I DO have a Minelab, as a matter of fact I have two...and WILL not sell/trade or bad mouth either. I was agreeing with your post, the last thing you said was "thats a fact Jack" I'm Jack and I agree!! And if you read my earlier post, I'll let others buy other brand detectors...I know what my detector can do...and I do not think there is a detector that can beat either Explorer I have for depth. But the fewer people in my area with other detecotrs means more deeper coins for me!!

I read some of these posts about the EX missing stuff. Being new to the EX I think it was the operator not the machine. This is a hell of a machine. It is telling me a lot of info of what is under my feet. I will say it has a larger learning curve than most. But once you have got the handle on it and know the programing it will be your under ground eyes.
How did the person have it set up when they missed the item? Was the person hard of hearing, Did they know how to use the machine? Were they sweeping the coil a foot off the ground? How was it programmed? You can buy a person books and send them to school, but if they pull the staples out and like the glue, and eat the pages their is nothing you can teach them. If the person does not want to read the manual or view the video I can see where they would be frustrated with this machine and go for a simpler unit where learning is minimal. But they will sure be missing out on the versatility of the EXII. I am happy with it and look forward to learning all it has to offer. Think how boring it would be if their was only one car to buy, or one color for shirts, or one type of shoe. Or only one detector to buy. We would all be lost in the parking lot, our wifes couldnt find us at a ball game, all our shoes would squeak and we would all have the some junk in the scrap box.

I wish everyone would jump on the whites bandwagon! one of my favorite things to do is follow one of those guys around for a couple hours, nail all the good targets they missed then listen to them tell me I'm just lucky, somehow still inferior, or if I'm real lucky I get to wach a little of this- :ranting:
Treasure hunting is more than just finding coins, its a variety of joyous experiances

I love it when things like this get posted about the Explorer or Explorer II. It takes a person about six months to one year to really get good at this machine. I don't really use my Mine Lab Explorer II for seeded hunts or freshly buried coins. It can pick them up, but the target response is not the same as if the target lay in undisturbed soil. A well experienced User of the Explorer knows this Problem, and will know what to do like, setting the gain lower, and sensitivity down in the single digits. They will also know what to listen for. If I were to take a MXT out to Elisabeth park here in Trenton Michigan,(this has already been done) and scan a target like a silver Dime buried at 8-10 inches. The MXT will not even hear it. (YES I SAID IT WILL NOT EVEN HEAR IT!!!) after this happened to my buddy Jim, He traded his MXT in at Al Holden's place in Michigan, (Pro Stock Detectors), For a Explorer II. Yes you should have seen the look on his face when that 1898 Barber dime came out the hole. It was priceless. Best of all is, he dug it out. I told him to just keep digging and watched him out of the corner of my Eye when his Bullseye pin pointer finally found it in the plug. He tried to give me the coin but I told him to keep it. My next signal 10 feet away was a 1876 Canadian Dime. Like I always say you can't argue with results.

PS. If Jim Lewis reads this or Larry C. They were both there to witness This. Especially Jim. LOL

I've seen guys in the field who've had their detector for years and only use one factory program.High end detectors can be tweaked quite a bit to increase their depth. Some guys just don't have a clue. You want to see some crap posts.Just read the posts from the guys who buy a high end detector and use it for an hour. Then post a book long report on everything that's wrong with the machine and how it can't find a coin at 4".Those guys kill me.

I don't think that is the highest rated detector White's makes and the Explorer user sure didn't have a clue to get cleaned by an MXT. I would bet my little group would have a field day following both of those two groups. You do have to know your machine...

Wish someone could come over here and show me what I am doing wrong cause my XS still doesn't find the deep ones.
Mike

Tom I have an XS and have never found deep silver in 5 years. Maby you can tell me what I am dong wrong. Can it be those signals that disappear when you dig? If so what it the trick to finding them? You say undisturbed soil. How long does the ground have to be undisturbed?
Here on campus they are always adding fill dirt, so is there a number of years the silver has to set before that classifies them as undisturbed? And if so how long. What I need is a good one on one teacher because I have NEVER found a target my MXT could not ID as well, please help. I've spent alot of money on the XS, has Platapus, 8" Sunray, and Standard Coil all with new lower rods, it would be nice to reap some rewards with it.

OK try this setting. This works for me on deep coins. The most common problem is most detectorist don't hear deep targets because most of there machines aren't set up to find them. 1st, set your (Gain) to 7. this will let the deep targets sound softer and make the shallow ones sound loud. 2nd, set your (Recovery) to fast on and deep on. why you say? I want to find deep coins but if you use fast on it separates the target better and sends a faster response when targets get co-located. Deep on lets you find deep coins. LOL. Have you heard of the Mine Lab wiggle? Thats the sound your listening for. Once you think you find a deep target center the coil over the target and wiggle the coil a little this will give you a fluty sound on a good target. If you have an Explorer 2, use Iron mask 11 and set your response too audio one. Now listen what sounds like someone gargling or what others call the fluty tones. You have probably read about this. I recommend this setting because I have found that all (Round Targets) I.E. coins, rings, sound fluty, but this does include twist on caps. So you take the good with the bad. I found my first large cent this year with this program 3 weeks ago at 10 inches Fluty signal. keep in mind that you want to have your variability all the way up on this, and lower your threshold to about 10-11 so you can hear that fluty sound. The reason this sound is made is because the target is further away from the coil. As the target gets closer to the coil the less fluty the signal becomes. In using this, keep in mind that shallow targets become harder to pin point so if you get a loud signal and want to locate it, use the pin point mode or raise the coil from the soil then sweep it. As with all targets, the higher fluty sounds are silver and copper. The lower ones are nickles and small gold rings and pull tabs. I hope this helps. I also have to add one last thing even though the obvious should be known. A good set of head phones are a must. I recommend a set of killer bee's , Grey ghost, or what I use, Black Widows for the Mine Lab. I hope this helps.

so where was your depth bar when you found this coin? All the way down? did you loose the signal once you started digging?

I'd say around 3/4's of the way down. They will sound different but give you the round sound even on edge. That's what makes that program set up work. The deeper coins don't always hit text book especially with co-located targets, but they still give that round sound. Thats why I use Audio 1. Regards
