Guys,
I just bought a 10.5 in. coil for my 3D. I wanted to test the difference between the 8 and the 10, so I buried some coins. I buried a dime at 12", a dime on edge at 8", a nickel at 8", a penny(non-zinc) at 6" next to a nail. The 3D detected NONE of these with either coil on . So, I buried a dime at 6" and couldn't detect it either. I tried air testing and would lose the dime at about 7-8". I re-ground balanced numerous times (bobbing method). This is in clay soil.I tried turning up the sens. to 5-6 with some improvement in air testing. But everybody knows that you can't hardly hunt with the sens set higher than 4. I could find a dime on edge at 2" but it pinpointed the depth at 4"
I have been finding coins of late but none past 4". I've been thinking that none in my area were deeper than that but now I'm not sure. I have been working an old site so there should be older coins here. I have found them back to 1892 (3") but this site dates back to 1820.
I'll be calling Fisher on Monday to talk to a tech. I think I'll be sending it in for a tune-up. Let me know if you think I have a problem.
Thanks,
Dave
