I took the SE Pro for a walk

Larry (IL)

Well-known member
the last two weekends and it was good company. Nancy and I managed to get out and go camping the last two weekends and that usually means some hunting is involved as well. I hit some well hunted areas but obviously not hunted out. The crown jewel from yesterday was a 1878 Indian Head in very fine condition. As you can tell, I did some of my hunting around a lake, some in a park and the nice Indians came from a Civil War reunion site which is mostly sand and the copper cents don't get the "greenies". The top quarter and Merc were black from sitting in a water soaked ditch so I took the brass brush to them and got them shinny but they were just bullion anyway so no real damage done. Of the five rings found only one is not a junker, the .925 is a nice one with an Amber stone in it and I did get a token for 5 cents in trade that is in pretty poor condition.

Nice finds - that's a nice load of silver with a nice Barber dime. That's also a beauty of an Indian Head cent and a good date. Any details on the token you can make out? HH

Nice finds! Camping and swinging? Sounds like my kind of weekend!!

Wow Larry i got a SE-Pro getting good with it, Nice finds Man, Mickfin

That was a pretty productive walk Larry  Congrats on all the great finds.

Someone was looking for GOLD by all that lead you found. Man you were digging everything...... a tent peg? So who won the shoot out for braggin rights.... you or your wife? Thats as nice as it gets for an IH.... great bunch of silver too. Those kind of finds require some work.... way to go.

Thanks all for the comments. FYI, the quarter and dime looked like the 85 half which was found in the same ditch, so when you find black silver, they will clean up with a brush if your finds are just bullion coins.

HI Dew, Nancy's health has got her down to where she can't hunt much any more. COPD limits her to maybe a half hour hunt on a good day and those have been few with the heat and humidity we get here. Those finds are the result of maybe 20 hours of hunting spread over two weekends, but I wouldn't call it work by a long shot, it is kind of relief from work for me. When hunting stops being fun, it is time to quit for the day.

Hey Mick, keep after learning the SE and it will treat you right.

Token Digger, the token is pretty toasted, one side is readable..... good for for 5 cents in trade and the other side only a few letters can be made out.

Bet that clad half got the heart racing for a moment.

Very nice finds, and an excellent variety.
