ID Excel?

I am thinking about purchasing an ID Excel.Due to limited income(disabled)the ID is in my price range, but will look at a used C$,CZ-3d or ID.The field test that Bill Ladd wrote sure makes the ID sound great. The problem is he is a professional and I have about 30 years experience using white's anolog machines, but I am not experienced with the new type machines.
There are very few comments in the forum about the ID's especially covering going from an anolog to the new computer style.I live in Alabama and the soil around here is heavily mineralized and a lot of places have been filled in with pipe shop soil.In short I'm afraid that the adjustments required for the soil will be confusing(not mentally diabled,I have COPD)for an old timer like me.
Any thoughts from you folks would be greatly appreciated

Just kidding <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=";)"> Thanks for the kind words, & I'm really no professional. Guess I'm lucky I live in a colonial area of the country. Anyhow, hopefully some other folks will answer you too, but of the 3 Fisher units ya mentioned I'd say the Excel will be the easiest to learn. Fisher really made it very simple to operate, for beginner or the experienced. I wouldn't get too worried about it being "computerized". It has a very good pre-set mode & also this forum can help you along the way as well...good luck, Bill

Hey Jim. I too live in Alabama and the area I'm in is really plagued with red clay. I purchased my ID Excel after inquiring about what detectors are good in this kind of soil. Have to admit that I have not been disapointed. The excel is really easy to use. Simply set your discrim level, sensitivity level, ground balance, and go. Or you could go even easier and use the Factory Preset.
If it beeps, dig.
If your in the north alabama area give me a holler and you can swing mine before you buy one.
