Identifying target and favorite mode

Hey guys. I am a new Anfibio Multi owner, and have just barely begun hunting with it. My question is this: Are you able to distinguish the difference between a pop can at 14" vs a silver quarter at 7"? I was hunting yesterday, and dug several really deep pop/beer cans. I know this was somewhat of a problem with my Explorer also, but I could often times tell it was a larger object when I pinpointed it. Also, what mode do you hunt in most of the time? Thanks for your input.

New Anfibio user myself. Two hunts so far with it. Used a Multi Kruzer in 3 tone most of 2017. So far continued using 3 tone with the Anfibio.

I was in moderate to high mineralized soil today covered with a rough sod layer (farm land with lots of nails and other iron bits and pieces). I did well with deep mode and stock coil with no tweaking just as is. This mode discriminated out better than 3 tone jacked up to 89 and 99. 4 tone mode was not bad for depth and discrimination. Delta mode was also tried and gave solid target signals. This mode is easy on the ear. I flipped to discrim modes to test for iron. If you are in doubt, keeping slowly going over and you will hear iron if it is there. I dug a faint signal and at high tone...turned out to be a very rusted small nail so I guess the signature was masked by the level of the decay. The AM does go deep that is for sure. My coupla hours resulted in Cdn dime and USA pennies 1926. Farm is in Port Alberni area of Vancouver Island BC. Beach hunting locally with little trash I used Delta mode...a real pleasure... found fragments of a silver bit of jewellery about 12 inches down. I believe this is the deepest mode and this mode can be jacked up to 99. Back to the beach next few days to give the AM more of a work out.

I'm sure that as you put in more time with the Anfibio, you'll come to appreciate it more and more. It's a terrific detector.

Metal beverage cans can, and will, fool any detector at times when compared with a VDI read-out that is similar to a USA coin, such as a silver Quarter as you suggested. Usually the larger targets can be 'classified' by using the Pinpoint function to verify a narrower or wider signal. At times you can simply sweep over a suspected target you believe to be larger than a coin and get ample coil 'lift' away from the ground and still get an audio hit when you sweep side-to-side.

Also, if you learn and gain confidence of your detector and coil's ability to provide a close-to-accurate Coin Depth, and the suggestion is a 7" deep coin, then if you've plugged a spot to 7" - 8" and your target is still there but deeper, you can again make just one or two passes with the search coil at a raised height, and if you have ample coil lift, your target is likely larger and deeper. Fill the dirt and plug back, stomp it down, and continue on. No need to dig deeper if working a typical Coin & Jewelry location.

Most of the time I am working an Anfibio Multi in 3-Tone (Di-3) with a Sensitivity of '99' and Discrimination at '03' with Ferrous Volume (Tone Volume for the ferrous range) at '01' and mostly using the 7" Concentric coil. In very tight, densely iron littered sites I opt for the 5" DD I keep mounted on separate middle and lower rods, and in more open and sparsely littered environments I'll probably switch to the stock 11" DD coil that is also mounted on its own rod-set.

If a site is sparsely littered, or if the offending trash is mainly nails or similar wire-iron, then my #2 favorite search mode is the 2-Tone or Di-2,.with Sensitivity at '95.' If I anticipate a site to provide some deeper coin-size targets (such as Coins, Trade Tokens, silver or gold Rings and other desired jewelry), and by 'deep' I am referring to coins at 5" - 6" or more, then I like to use the 'Deep' mode.

Just put in the time and learn as you go until the Anfibio is more or less well undrstood. It's really an impressive metal detector.

Thanks Monte. That's good info. I appreciate all your input. I am looking forward to spending time hunting with my Anfibio, and will post my finds and thoughts.
