If it rains and I can't swing the coil:thumbdown:...and I can't ride the Harley:confused:...I......

grab my buddy and hit the mud.:clapping:

Instead of "exploring" with my Explorer SE...I explored some woods.:jump:

Behind every successful hunting day...lies a sweet backup plan.

I went to help my dad mow 10 acres before it started pouring.

5 hours later we were done so I got the SE out. Within 15 minutes the lightning just about jolted my britches off:blink:...and we had a 30 minute downpour....so the SE went back in the car.

Plan B would have been a nice Harley ride...but there was water standing all over the roads:ranting:

Plan C.....well....you see it:biggrin:

My knees are bad from many years of motocross racing and a bad accident a few years ago....so I figure at age 46...4 wheelin' is more my style and speed.

Any of the 3 plans were NO lose situations....but plan C allowed for my buddy Hercules to hit the trails with me.:)

He is my faithful friend. and he absolutely loves to ride with me....so I had my dad snap a couple of shots of us before we got all mudded up:cool:

My dad is not well...but he is a strong feller'...and getting to spend the day with him is wonderful. No amount of rain or storms can mess that up:super:

I hope you all get some hunting in this weekend. I am pretty much under water here...so please find some goodies for me:clap:

If anyone wants to jump in and show some pics of their pets...please feel free to do so:clapping:. I would love to see other forum members' critters:)

My avatar is not an actual pic of my Golden Retriever - Henry, but it looks exactly him. Just had him at the vet today for a check-up and he weighs in at 98 lb. -- wonder what that is in human pounds!  He's a great dog!

Thanks Erik:)

98 lbs in dog pounds = one big sized human feller'

If you run accross a pic of Henry...slip it in this thread if you get time.

I will. Hope your Dad is feeling better - sounds like he's a strong man and I wish him the best. Yes, Henry is a big Golden - biggest and strongest one I've had and I've had Goldens since I've been a child. Henry is big, but agile as a rabbit - obsessed with running after a tennis ball....that and swimming are his favorite activities. He's a super sweet dog - loves everyone - and is always happy! He's a very loyal companion too! (wish he could hold a metal detector!)

BTW, it's been raining here for almost a month now (with a few breaks in between) and the forecast for the next seven days is....you guessed it!

Here is my girl. She is an 8 year old brindle boxer and I wouldn't trade her for a billion dollars. She is truly my best friend and one of the family.

Spending some time with your dad and then going out for a cruise with "man's best friend". Great pics! I'll try and dig you a few Silver this weekend when I get out.......just in case you don't get out due to bad weather. Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:

Thanks...he is my buddy...and really helped me through some very rough times over the last couple of years.:)

The quad is a big one. It's like driving one of those golf cart things...only this one will run over 60 mph:clapping:

Thanks Erik. He is a strong man...but he is at the point now where there is no getting better with his kidneys.

It's just a short matter of time before he has to begin the dialysis process...so things will be hectic.

Right now I'm just trying to help him keep everything up..and spend as much time as I can with him while he can still do some things he enjoys.

It was worth the price of admission to see him on my 4 wheeler for a few minutes.

I put it in 1st gear and left it there. That was more than fast enough for him. He had never been on one before...so he didn't last long.

I wish Hercules could swing a detector too...but I have been taking him on most of my hunts with me anyway. He truthfully goes almost everywhere with me.

I hope it stops raining your way so you can get some hunting in. Same goes for myself.

I know exactly what you mean, back-up plans are essential and family or pets often become the leading role.
Here's a pic of Ike, I lost him a few months ago when he got a bladder infection he couldn't recover from, he was only 6 years old
He loved going detecting and every time I took off deep into the woods ... he went with me for protection.

This dog was absolutely FEARLESS, he stepped in between me and a black bear when we accidentally walked up on her cubs in the woods behind our house.
The fur flew for a solid 3 or 4 minutes and Ike sent the momma bear running up a tree bleeding pretty bad from her neck, face, back and legs, he did a real number on her, I felt sorry for the bear.
Ike was completely covered with blood, I took the water hose to him when we got home and didn't find a scratch on him anywhere, the only damage I found on him was a single chipped canine tooth !
It was a SCARY event to say the least, momma bear was mad as hell and Ike didn't take it lightly.
On a lighter note, we still have his daughter ( Angel ) with us, she weighs 182 pounds and nothing gets by her either.

Good Hunting

Mike

It's good you can get out and have some fun doing something else when you can't detect. I saw you were getting some big storms yesterday morning that came down from up North. It's supposed to storm here sometime from late afternoon into overnight. I just hope it gets over with early enough to keep from washing out Saturday.

Max is now 13 and acts like she's 3

Hi Mike,

Beautiful dog and I'm so sorry to hear that you lost him! I lost a beautiful Golden Retriever named Teddy at 6 years and it's heartbreaking. We also lost an amazing Golden named Teak two years ago (right after we got Henry) to a cancer that was growing into his spine and paralyzing him. We did surgery to demass the tumor, chemo, and then later radiation. I was able to bring him back twice from paralysis of the rear legs to where he was walking unassisted again -- and happy -- he withstood everything like a champ and never complained -- just loved being with us and we loved him! A real miracle dog, sweet, intelligent, gentle, and the greatest companion. I miss him dearly (as I do the other Goldens I've had the pleasure to have gotten to know)!

Thanks Bryce,
He has been with me 24 hrs a day now for his whole life. His back legs are getting very weak but he is in good spirits.
I dread the day.
Your dog looks like a sweetheart.

I believe Max can get by with whatever she wants to with you:cool:...at least that's what the look on her face tells me.
