Killing some time this afternoon with the Safari, so I hit some local grassy strips next to city parking lots. Trash City; so bad that I quit everything below a 32. Dug some can slaw in the 30's along with a few zincs and 1 Cu, then got a strong shallow 38. Whoopee, so I stick in the trowel about 2" and pry upwards. DOH! Another flattened can. I wanted SO bad to leave it, but what I dig, I carry to the trash, so I plucked it out. Here's what it really was:

$2.30 in clad. Thank You Mr Coinpurse Zipper.

edited to fix spaillin.

KinTN - I continue to get fooled by crush cans or canslaw reading tid 38,too. But I've gotten a little better id'ing the crap as the audio signal returned is usually louder and of greater duration than that of a either a silver or clad quarter. But I've not found any "big' silver" i.e.,halfs or dollars with the Safari. However, with air testing a Morgan silver,I was surprised to see it's tid of 35-36, so I don't know and continue to dig those louder & longer 38s. I do tend to hunt mostly in relic and low density which should be returning truer tid accuracy with ferrous audio. GL and look forward to seeing more of your posts.

Thanks, kschae4. I also note that canslaw will often 'waver' in tone(maybe beacuse it isnt a perfect disc?), even if the # doesnt flucuate. I'll always dig a good strong tone that I get at Any #.

I'll look up and post some of my 2012 more interesting finds when I get a chance. Nothing valuabe like a lot of you guys dig, but I AM doing my first beach trip this month so maybe I'll have something good to brag on then.

before you dig a good sounding target, try this: keep raising the coil as you sweep over the target, if the target still sounds loud when the coil is 12" or more above the ground, it's probably something larger than a coin.

Good tip. I also do the same thing with my pinpointer. If the Safari says its in the top 2" but the pinpointer wont pick it up, I wont dig. Hopefully, I'm not leaving large silver coin caches in the parks!
