If you were given one choice to make for your all around detector to use and you only had the E-TRAC or the V3I to choose from which would you choose? I'm curious of what the results are going to be. My choice is the E-TRAC.

It is going to depend on what the user is primarily hunting for and where and what machines they know how to use. I would hesitate to classify the ETrac as an all around detector, I consider it more of a specialty detector for high conductors. I have had an ETrac and several SE's and my choice of the two was the SE but just because I have used the Explorers for many years and knew the SE much better. I found both of them lacking in the segmented gold, like necklaces and bracelets and some of my best jewelry finds ever would not register at all on the SE/ET.
My three main detectors are the SE W/10X12, V3i W/10X12 and a modified Tesoro Cibola. When I'm hunting old grounds looking for deep silver and coppers, I grab the SE and for tot lots, competition hunts or just a change of pace from the power houses, the Cibola. For all other hunting from jewelry to Relics or taking a quick scan of a new hunting spot the V3i is the main machine. The last of the three to go would be the V3i because it can substitute for the other two from deep silver to speed hunting, but at a slight disadvantage. The V3i is the best all around detector I have ever used from nugget hunting in 22.5 kHz to deep silver in 3 Khz modes.

However if it isn't ............. You say an all around detector between the two [size=large]Etrac/ V3i[/size] ...... The V3i is the Best choice for all around status ..
Coins mode, Jewelery Mode, Relic Mode, Prospecting capabilities, Relic Hunting capabilities....... and yes even Beach Hunting ( Dry Sand) ........ The V3i is a true all around detector.
You do not say what your primary detecting requirements are. If it's pretty much deep Silver, and Coins, The Etrac will work wonders.. It's really a matter of opinion at best..but the V3i will more than qualify for ALL AROUND

The E-Trac is the best coin Metal detector our right now. I can't wait till one of the others puts one out like it!

You surprise me Gunnar, I didn't know that you had experience with either one of those.
Ron has it right....to be able to make a definate statement to which is best out of the two, you would need to use them both of them in all detecting situations for a good number of hours.Nobody can claim to be able to say one metal detector is the best unless they have tested every other detector on the market thoroughly and i doubt if anybody on this forum can claim that.The etrac and the whites v3 seem to be excellent detectors(i've never used then personally) but i bet in certain situations they can be beaten by others.....to say the etrac is the best coin detector going at the moment is nothing stronger than an opinion.
