i traded for a ifinder plus withs map creator 6 and video etc. will be my first gps is this a decent machine
 
Yes, it's a very good receiver. The MapCreate 6 has fair maps of the USA. They are not as detailed as MapCreate 6.3 topo maps but they are very decent and should be perfectly OK as general purpose maps.
 
will it work well for Geocaching and would like to use it to find old areas of activity to detect at any pointers
 
Yes, it will work very well for geocaching. In fact, because iFinder is very responsive it may in fact be one of the best choices for such activities.
