I'm renting an Etrac this weekend - any tips for success?

Hey guys - I'm renting an Etrac this weekend for the hell of it... and to see how it differs from my Garrett. ANy tips for coin shooting in old "pull tab" parks? I doubt this thing will come with the manual so I might have a hard time figuring out how to use it.

Any help is appreciated!
 
Load up the factory Coin & Jewelry program, make sure you're on AUTO sensitivity, be sure to Noise Cancel before you get started, move very slow and listen for those good old high pitched tones. Look at the CO number(right set) and watch for 39 to 47. Did I mention you MUST go slower than what you're used to.
 
Choose mode 2 tone ferrous and listen out for the hign signal sounds that are next in the ground to low signal sounds The low signals are the iron and you should have a high and a low signal sound in the hole when you have dug it. Obviously,you want to find the high signal
 
If you want to cherry pick through the trash looking for silver, set it to multi-tone conductive sounds and listen for the high pitch repeatable signals. Deep coins will often have a signal that "pops" or "breaks" at the end. Dig those and you'll find any remaining silver.

If you're looking for gold, look for repeatable signals along the ferrous 12 line. Usually a very solid signal in my experience. Good luck!
 
I hunt heavily used big city parks frequently. A trashy park is not the first place I would go with a machine unfamiliar to me.

I would urge you to listen to what Southwind said.
 
Since you don't have much experiance with this detector, I would make sure you are in factory per set and take it out. You don't want to get overwhelmed. Just let the machine work for you.
 
Factory Coin mode.

Auto sensitivity.

Noise cancel at site.

Swing slow while just a nat's hair off the ground.

I'd start off by digging anything repeatable that comes up 40 plus conductivity that isn't discriminated by the coins program. If don't feel like you are digging enough targets, good or bad, then experiment with what numbers you dig.

The most important variable is a site with the stuff you want to find in the ground. If it's there and in reach, without a fog of trash around it, the ETrac is gonna see it and tell you about it. If it's not there to begin with the Etrac, can't find it.
 
I also don't want to overwhelm you with a bunch of settings recommendations. I will simply suggest you put it in the factory preset coin mode and hunt with it. Don't forget to do a noise cancel before the hunt and keep an eye on the sensitivity level if you hunt in manual. She'll run super smooth in Auto sensitivity +3. She's really a simple machine so if it is your first time out with a minelab go with the factory preset coins mode just ground balance first and have fun. If you have lots of pull tabs you may want to disc them out and just focus on the silver coins that come in at 12 44 up to 12 48 for smaller silver. If the numbers are close to that and CONSISTENT with good sound and trying to duplicate the same numbers each swing then pinpoint and dig.
I actually would tell you to just start and dig consistent signals if you had more time than one day but if not then stick to the higher pitched tones in multi tone. I would not recommend Ferrous tone to learn the machine with as ALL pull tabs (and lots of other stuff) will sound the same as coins.
Mainly just go out there and have fun learning the machine...better start saving up now!

First off, have a great time, any time out there hunting especially with a minelab is a treat.
By, the way, I have an se and am waiting for an etrac to come in to kellyco (If anyone knows where there is a great deal on an etrac please let me know, I think the people at Kellyco are great, however, they dont have any etracs and dont know when they will get any), where did you rent one?
I live in Indianapolis
