Well I'm just getting back in to THing, got out of it for a wile ,was thing about picking up a cheep detector well that's out the door, Head first here I come ,The most I have paid for a detector 1,500 When the V 3 first came out ,ill keep that opion to my self.Question is is the new minelab worth 2,400 if so why,Depth and so on,I have been on this forum for more than four years now and I trust the people here..So let me have it what do u guys think??? One other question will it work in saltwater ??

This is the first time I have ever owen a Minelal I have alway used Whites I got this detector for something new for me it is WORTH it I am finding really deep coins the detector is awesome.:twodetecting::minelab::thumbup: and yes it can be used in salt water.

Well if you had a v3i then you should try a minelab. I was a white's guy as well. Etrac was a shocking improvement for me and my coin count and hunting fun increased. Depth was good and there are coils big and small you can use. Very stable unit. The CTX so far for me has shown to be much faster at processing targets and has very good depth even with the stock coil. Balance in your hand is better than the Etrac and the wireless head phone ability makes it nice. If you want a solid metal detector you can find an Etrac now for a good price as people switch to CTX. If you want to spend more and have the current model, you will get an improved metal detector over the Etrac with the ability for wireless, underwater detecting and the ability to make many custom adjustments. I doubt you will be disappointed either way.

I, too, recently switched from a V3i to the E-Trac and now own a CTX. Going to either machine (E-Trac or CTX) is going to be a big change - you'll be digging deeper and finding older stuff. I purchased my CTX for the sole purpose of going deeper than my Excall II in the water and being able to detect on land in the rain. It was all about being waterproof for me. It was worth it for me because I live in an area where there is a lot of gold in the water and it rains a lot; so I should be able to find more gold by going deeper in the water and I should be able to spend more time hunting on land in the rain.

I'm not a saltwater hunter, so I can't say anything about that - sorry - and I'm currently only an armchair CTX user so I can't say much about any performance advantage. But there are some good YouTube videos illustrating the faster processing of the CTX. This is a big plus for finding silver coins because so many silver coins are hiding near iron.

Yes because of multi freq it does well in salt water. Holler if you have any more questions on the Minelab CTX 3030. Love to help you or answer any questions, Bart.

Like the above I too had the V3i and I have always been a Whites guy since 1983. After a farm field hunt this early spring, I was blown away when I saw what my friends were finding with their Etracs. I immediately sold my V3i and purchased an Etrac. I was sold....in just under 2 months I racked up over 50 pieces of silver in areas that were searched out. Then I sold my Etrac and bought the CTX. WOW in under a month, again over 50 pieces of silver. Its amazing!!

I LOVE MY CTX I truly do she does not ride in the bed of my truck she rides in the cab with me LOL! I upgraded from an SE Pro ( miss my x-1) but only the x-1 on land. I have hunted mainly fresh water lakes some land since I got the CTX and Myrtle beach for 4 days it did great considering it was sanded in days 2-4. I was hunting an AT PRO in the water prior to buying the CTX. My ring and silver count is up. I know when water season ends and I hit land in the fall I will most likely smoke my hunting buddy who owns the an etrac. I keep up just fine on the lake against his excal. If you want more beach info I would look up grave digger max and pm him he has tons of videos in the lane grabbing tickets  Here is a link to a guy who hunted the CTX with a 17 coil. http://www.findmall.com/read.php?86,1728850. I would not trade my CTX for anything and I think it was 2500 dollars well spent!

When my CTX gets back from the Minelab hospital I'm going to have a little talk with her about making me dig up so much aluminum and not finding a single piece of silver or gold yet. She does ride in the back of my SUV but it's all padded and air conditioned back there. I've even taken her to the beach for a few swims. She seems to like it and never chatters to me about going in the water. Although she has come down with a case of larengitis from the water. Anyway, when she comes back I'm going to set down some new rules for when she's on the job. I don't want her barking any more at every little piece of trash she sees.

I love it ! I did not have the chatter issue either I did have one small beach area where it chattered in the wet sand and I re noise cancelled and dropped from auto to manual about 16 and it was fine further down the beach went back to auto +3. Oh she is sassy and trash talks plenty I usually dig even when she talks trash and sometimes she talks sweet and it is still trash. I hope yours comes home soon !
