Initial settings for an SE?

I have an SE coming next week. I hunt at least six days a week and have used several detectors. I have a lot of time on the T2/F75 and Tejon and some time on a Cortes. I also have a lot of time on a SovereignGT.

I don't want to start out wrong with my Explorer. I would rather go ahead and learn to use it in the best way rather than have to change everything down the road and re-learn stuff. I say this because from what I read here the Explorer has a lot of different options. I don't mind being overwhelmed at first, i'd just as soon tough it out and learn it right.

So... can someone suggest some settings or options that will make my SE be all that it can be for me?

Is there a site or thread with peoples favorite settings?

Thanks!

Julien

Hi Julien, I don't have the SE, just an old XS, maybe someone here with the SE can chime in but the main settings in my judgment are sens, and the amount of iron mask, some use no disc, and whether you want to use normal audio or long audio, also fast, deep or normal recovery. I think these will get you up and going, most of them if you ask any Explorer user will have different settings so it is a matter of personal preference. I read where many do well with their own particular settings, that is the great thing about the Explorer as it does well with different settings.

Simple answer? FACTORY PRESETS

Overall the most consistent advice has been:

Read and understand the manual.
Use it in factory preset mode for a while. I would say several hunts minimum.
Go slow.

Other tips:
Plant a test garden in the back yard or put some coins and junk on the ground and LISTEN.
All the new sounds will drive you nuts and knowing what to listen for is a huge help.

Again, - consistently - people expect NOT to have a learning curve on this machine.
It will take time to learn and find the awesome old stuff.
The factory presets are set in a decent place to start hunting immediately and you WILL find coins and more importantly be learning your machine. Even if you only find a handful of clad or zincs, the learning and experience you gained are well worth the time spent.
