Is this a problem?

My coil is starting to separate, could this cause performance problems?

When I push it back together, sometimes it stays for a while, sometimes it doesn't.

That's your coil cover. It needs to be snapped back into place. It has othing to do with performance. It is there to protect the bottom of the coil.

IMHO, it's just the coil cover and will probably not have a negative effect on the operation other than the possibility of allowing dirt and moisture to enter. I would take the cover completely off and clean it as well as the coil and try pressing it on again.

LOL !!! I had the same problem, I thought my coil was coming apart and even shipped it back to MInelab only to be told by their tech that it's only the coil cover coming off. You can literally pull this cover off and wash it clean then snap it back on. I suggest you take it off after every hunt to clean off the dirt, sand, etc. Dirt or sand under this coil will most likely give you false signals (falsing) so cleaning it and your coil is highly recommended.
