It is what is

I got a new NEL Snake coil today for my F75Ltd and air tested it to see where fits in the lineup of my other small coils, the 5”DD and the 6.5” concentric.
Also my chart is not meant to show max air test depth, I tested all the coils using the same settings on my machine, just to see where they lineup. I did run one of the small coils up to max and all I got was another ½” inch.

So your saying your best results regarding depth in your test were from the stock 11"dd?
Mud..

For sure the 11" has the best air test depth, but for this go around I was looking at the little snake coil. Also I will not the 11" is the least used of any of my coils, because of the trash in the ground where I hunt.

OK...Ron!,

I only have the 11"dd, but have learned to make due with it in heavy trash to a modicum of success, although I am not sure what I'm missing?...I think beach working multidenom pocket spills/slants/stacks has really helped me here...sometimes with that many different coins tight together, all a guy hears on the first pass is a strange 'click'...then, when a guy hovers or hops the coil and tries to isolate individual coins only using the very center of the coil, it seems to work like a sniper..?.

I dont understand how you guys can switch coils and comprehend the message?..Although I've seen it here very well done! It has taken me years of dedication and 1000s of targets just to learn what the 11"dd is saying...that said, the NEL and the 5"dd have sparked my interest, but I just cant get off my wallet or attempt to learn anything else...Very confident with your results, thanks for taking the time to do this test!.:beers:
Mud.

Saturday I was out searching with the 5" coil around an older High School - student drop off area using DP tones. After an hour I decided to try the 11" coil so I made the switch. Bam!--with in the first 3 steps I got a 83 / high tone pitch- Dug up a silver ring.
So was it the extra depth from the 11" - Each coil has it's place- The 5" does not require much pinpointing. I have the 5x10 too but have not used it much lately.
Good information on the Chart Ron!!! Thanks for sharing.

Ron I'm glad you were able to test the NEL Snake coil, as I didn't get around to it.

I did test it out in the field a little when I got a chance to do some detecting on the 4th. I need more time on it, but from your testing it looks like the 5" coil out performs the NEL coil, except in BP mode (which is mainly the process I hunt in). Should be interesting to see how it does in the ground.

Thanks for the testing

Wow, looks like the little 6.5 is still in the running.

Though I do like the idea of 2 elliptical coils of the same size, one concentric and one DD.

But I think overall most factory coils tuned for the specific machines works best ..in the most places..

Just my experience and opinion with coils. After market coils seem to work well in one spot..and not so well in the overall areas we detect...

No, the 11" is pretty much part of the detector, so I don't think I would ever part with it.

Thanks for asking,

My brother does all the hard work of testing and research and then shares all this information with me , thanks big brother. We are always looking for better ways to improve with our hunting skills.

The differences between the two 6" coils are marginal. I wouldn't be surprised to see the same test on a different F75 produce slightly different results, or even with different coils of the same model.

At any rate, even though it may appear that the factory 6" coil is ever so slightly deeper, it's not an apples to apples comparison, one is a concentric and the other a DD. So basically we have two tools to choose from, it all depends on how you use them.

Also keep in mind with a disc setting of 15 you have detuned the sensitivity, with my F75 LTD2 hunting in iron I set the disc to 0 so that deeper targets ID better then with a higher disc setting, and you also get the benefit of increased gain with a lower disc setting. High gain mode kicks in if you have the disc lower than 5 or higher than 19.

I just retested both the 6.5" elliptical concentric and the 6.5" NEL Snake at max and put them in a chart. It still looks proportional to me, and as expected in some areas it did gain some depth at max.

The results are the same the 6.5" elliptical concentric is just a tad deeper.

If I was to send all my coils to somebody else that has a F75LTD 2 or upgraded and they were to do the same test, same settings, and same targets, the numbers may be different but the results would be the same.

As for high and low gain, I know that not all the processors run the same on the F75's, I know that the JE processor is running high gain all the time no matter what the disc settings are.

I just had to know, and yes we now have 2 different tools. I am kind thinking the snake may be best for jewelry hunting and shallow coin hunting, thinking the target separation may be better than the concentric.

Thanks Ron for the tests. Doesn't look like a snake coil is in my immediate future. But good to know if my 6.5 conc goes bad that there are options out there.
