Jessie James treasure on history channel

Just a heads up. There is a show on the History Channel right now where they are
looking for possible treasure that Jessie James hid away in Kansas.
They used ground radar and also metal detectors. Guess what brand detector? :)
It's going to run again tonight at 11 PM CST. And since I've been watching it, they
have already found a mason jar with 1880 silver dollars in it. :)
I guess I won't have to mention what brand detector was used for those.. Chortle..
I'm going to record it when it runs again at 11.. It's on the History Channel,
and also HC HD..
Man... They are digging up all kinds of coins.. Some look like gold pieces..
This is worth watching.. :)

Yep got some nice gold coins also. I heard the coin belltone when they found them..at a foot!

I missed the first 10 minutes. What's with all the guns and badges? Also, they didn't appear to be too careful in how they were digging. Sure found some good stuff, though!
 
I noticed the badge too.. Not sure.. I assume he's a cop of some type.
The gun... I don't really find that too unusual when out in the sticks like that.
I'm often packing one on my belt when I'm on my own property.
I don't like being caught with my britches down.. :rofl:
Seriously though.. I've had dog packs, yotes, large cats, etc roaming around, and
I don't relish becoming lunch if one gets a wild hair.
I noticed at one point towards the end, one guy was standing watch with a
shotgun. The booger man is going to have trouble messing with those boys. :)
I'm wondering how the land owner is going to like having that 10 ft plus deep
pit on their property while treasure hunter guy scrapes up more cash flow.. :argue:
 
They used something else to find that gold bar.. Didn't recognize it.. But I don't
keep up with all the various machines too much.

Yeah, it looked like an older White's machine (analog). I could be wrong, though, I'm not sure.

Man, that was an AWESOME show.

I think I'm gonna go look for some o' that James Gang loot with my 2500.:biggrin: Let me just dig out my depth multiplier.:goodnight:

Really good show. I didn't care for the way they ended it with a cliff hanger though. I would have grabbed a pick and shovel at that point.
 
sounds really interesting guys, makes me want to go and hook up to the history channel,,who puts out the series ?? maybe I could buy the DVD or something
 
With them removing all the topsoil like they did the erosion will be considerable. If they get the kind of wet spring we had this year they might need the guns to protect against a pissed off land owner!
 
There have been some stories about possible treasure in Oklahoma near the areas
the bandits used to hang out. Belle Starr used to live and was killed and buried about
15 miles or so to the north of my OK place. I've heard a story that she had money buried
in the front yard of her house, but it was found many years ago.
The story goes that a big dug up hole appeared in her yard with nothing in it.
So I guess they assumed it was a cache of money. Would kind of make sense, unless
they wanted to start a new well.. :rofl:
The land the Starr family lived on was a bit to the east on the Canadian river. It's said
that the James-Younger gang holed up there from time to time. I guess they felt safe
being it was Indian Territory. I noticed that on the list of states they robbed, OK was not
one of them. A lot of bandits used to hole up in the Robbers Cave area just north
of Wilburton.
I just hope that show was for real, and not some staged hoax to get a TV show.. :razz:
They could have planted those coins ahead of time.. My suspicious nature pondering..
And how did they find out about all this stuff, the writings on the cliffs, etc.. Hummm...
Also.. I used to live in Kansas. Both Wichita and the K.C. area.. They said it was
central Kansas, and I suppose it well could be. But it looked more like eastern KS,
almost bordering MO to me if I had to guess by looking at it. Hummm..
But if it's on the level, that's called doing yer homework as far as research and
preparation. :thumbup: I want to see whats under the big pit.. Makes me wonder..
If they couldn't get to it with a 10 ft back hoe, how did the heck did they do it in the 1800's?
Weird.. I would not expect it to be *that* deep. :/ They didn't have fancy digging stuff
back then, and what would be the purpose to have it so deep it takes an act of
congress to dig it back up? This inquiring tecterhead wants to know.. :/

The "find" was staged!

While the program is entertaining, and it contains a lot of historical fact, on the whole of it, it is typical TV docudrama; an all too familiar form of entertainment these days. Reminds me of the Al Capone treasure hunt that Geraldo Riviera did a few years back. About all that's changed is, they're better at presenting it.

To sum it up? Hogwash!

You are not the only one that was thinking that.. :/
I had a hokey feeling after seeing how clean some of those coins looked.
The gold in particular. Sure, it doesn't corrode much, but I'd still expect
them to be totally dirt encrusted after 120 years or so. They were in mason
jars, but the one they found with coins was broken. Which leads to another
question.. How does a buried mason jar get broken? Could be plowed up I suppose,
but that didn't really seem like a crop field they were digging in.
I was starting to think staged too after I watched the whole program while recording it.
