Joey Coil Still HOT!!! Weekend Finds Part:1.

James N.D.

Headed back to the Fairgrounds once again on Saturday to see what else I could pull. Went back to the same area once again and started reworking it. And sure enough, there were a few more Coins to be found. Tim also met up with me and tried the Concentric 8" Coil of Rick(ND's) for a few hours. He was surprised how well it could get between Bottle Caps and Nails. He found a 1907 Indian Head at about 7" or more which proved that it went deep enough to find them Old Coins in amongst the Trash and Iron. I am unsure of Tim's Totals but I do know he found 1 Merc, 2 Rosie's, an Indian Head, some Wheat's, a Clad Half Dollar and 2 Rings. Nice Going Tim! Between the Concentric Coil 8" and the Joey Coil 5"X10", the Joey could get Louder and Clearer Signals than that of the Concentric Coil. I came across a Signal that read like a Half Dollar would but would bounce around a bit. I had Tim come over and see what he thought the Target could be. He said there was a Shallower Target about 3" away from where I said I had a good repeatable signal at and thought I was catching this Target off the edge of it which would have made the Target register Deeper than what it really is. I told him I could be but when I rescanned the Target, I went to Pinpoint and I could tell there were 2 Targets, not 1. I dug the Deeper Target that the Concentric couldn't see and found a Wheat Penny. I am unsure just how deep the Wheat was but it was Deep, around 8"+. But there could have been some different settings on Tim's Explorer 2 than that of my Explorer XS which may have been the cause of no signal. I do know he was running Fast On and Deep On together while I was using Fast On Only. His Gain could also been lower than the 10 I run with. Still was a good testing for the Concentric Coil and I may give it a shot sometime myself. Now as for the finds, here is what I found. I was able to retrieve 12 more Silver. They consisted of 2 Barber Dimes dated 1900 and 1912, 9 Mercury Dimes dated (2)1941-d's,1942,1942-d,(2)1943-d's,1944,1944-d,1945-s, and 1 Roosevelt Dime dated 1951-d. For Nickels, I found 2 Jefferson Nickels both dated 1940-d. I will be posting the Indians and Nickels together here to save space. The Indian Heads I found were dated 1880 and 1891. I didn't clean the 1880 fully due to it being in bad shape. I wish it would have been in the shape the 1891 is, but oh well! In Part 2, I will be posting Tokens and the Wheat's I found. The Misc. Finds I made consisted of 3 Rings, 1 is an Old Copper Snake Ring that says Real Copper on the inside which is a neat find, 1 is an Aluminum Ring with a Blue and Black Splatter Paint Design on it, and the other is a flattened Aluminum Kids Ring in the shape of a Heart, a Bullet, what is left of a Junior G-MAN Badge, and a Button that reads The Art Metal Works, Newark, NJ. on the Back. I will be posting Part 2 sometime around 9:00pm after I get the other finds Cleaned Up a bit. Thanks for Looking and Good Luck and HH to you all.:detecting: [attachment 70215 DirtySilver.jpg][attachment 70219 CleanedSilver.jpg][attachment 70220 DirtyIndiansAndNickels.jpg][attachment 70223 CleanedIndiansandNickels.jpg][attachment 70225 DirtyMisc..jpg][attachment 70226 CleanedMisc..jpg]

the button is a great seal button ...... here is some info if you are interested http://metaldetectingworld.com/05_photo_gallery/05_great_seal_but_1902/index.htm

Here is the rest of the weekend finds I made. I thought I would throw in the Clad Count also here, but without a Pic. The Totals for the Clad were 5 Quarters, 20 Dimes, 2 Nickels, and 47 Pennies. Just more Clad to throw into the Bucket. For Tokens, I found 5 of them. 3 are the better Tokens and 2 are Junk. The First Token is made of Aluminum and says on the Front Tax Commission Tax Token State Of Washington and on the back it says Tax On Purchase CH.180 Laws 1935 10 Cents Or Less. Common Token and have found a couple others like it before. The Second Token says Good For 10c In Trade on the Front and on the Back it reads Central. I think this Token could be made of Aluminum but not the same Composition as the other Tokens I have found which might mean that this Token is from the Early 1900's or Before. It turned out better than the Pic shows. The Third Token is Aluminum and on the Front it says Good For 5c In Trade and on the Back it reads Wally Jastram Rosholt, So. Dak. The Fourth Token is a Junk Token with a Pic of a Clown on the Front and on the Back reads No Cash Value. The Fifth Token is another Junk Token that has an Eagle on the Front and on the Back reads For Replay Only No Cash Value. And Lastly, the Wheat Pennies. I found 38 more dated 12,18-d,(2)19,26,(2)26-d,29,29-d,30,33-d,34-d,35-d,(2)36-d,37,38,39,39-s,41,42,(2)42-d,(2)44,(2)44-d,(2)45-d,(2)46-d,(2)47-d,48-d,49-d,(2)50, and 50-d. Hope you enjoyed this round of finds and until the next time I get out, Good Luck and HH to you all. Thanks for looking.[attachment 70234 DirtyTokens.jpg][attachment 70238 CleanedTokensFront.jpg][attachment 70236 DirtyTokensBack.jpg][attachment 70239 CleanedTokensBack.jpg][attachment 70240 DirtyWheats.jpg][attachment 70241 CleanedWheats.jpg]

I was wondering just how Old this Button could be. Nice Site Adam and Thanks Again. Good Luck and HH!:detecting:

After that you really have to pay attention to the Sound and ID. I remember when I came across a Signal in the Golf Course here that use to be a Horse Track and Rick(ND) was with that day. I got a Very Loud Signal that read 28 on Digital and showed just over 3/4th's of the Depth Meter Deep with my Stock 10.5" Coil and had Rick come over to see if he could get it with the Joey Coil. He swung over the Target and thought I was trying to play a trick on him. He told me that I must have put a New Dime on top of the ground because of how loud it was. I told him to look at his Depth Gauge and he couldn't believe how Crystal Clear it sounded for how deep it was. This is what Sold Me on a Joey Coil! For Depth and Ability to go between Trash and find the Good Stuff. Anyways, I opened up a Plug and started digging. Finally when I had the Lesche Digger all the way down where the Handle was just about flush with the surface of the grass, I found what it was. A Nice 1891 Seated Dime! Believe Me! I was Excited when I seen what it was and how nice it was. I figured the Dime had to be 10" Deep since the Lesche Digger measures around 11". The only explanation for this Coin to have such a Halo around it would be because it was out in the open for over 100 years and all the Rain and Frost over that period of time must have made the Halo around the Coin grow so big that it was like swinging over a Quarter or Half. This is the only time I have ever dug that Deep that I know of but it could be possible if the Ground Conditions are right and what the Settings are on the User's Machine. One thing to remember here is, the Slower you Swing the Joey Coil, the more finds you will make. Thanks for the post and Good Luck and HH.[attachment 70248 SeatedDimeFront.jpg][attachment 70249 SeatedDimeBack.jpg]

I really didn't realize how much a person misses even when they swing their Coil at a normal Sweep Speed, even with a Smaller Coil on. Doing a Crawl at this Fairgrounds opened up my Eyes Fully and now I may have to go back to some of my Old Hot Spots sometime and retry some of the Trashy Area's once again. I sure am glad that I tried the Joey Coil at this site or there would be Hundred's of Old Coins still waiting to be found by someone else. Wonder just how many more is lost here. I bet it's in the 1000's but most are just too Deep for the Explorer's to reach. Good Luck and HH to you Bryce and thanks again for the post. :super:

I have that same Washington state tax token, never did find a listing for it. I found it in Iowa. So James, are you running your gain at 10, fast on; in trash or most of the time? My SE falses allot whenever I put my gain over 8. I just got that Joey coil and the platypus too, I think the Joey is the perfect size for separation and still getting depth. Plus it gives you quicker coverage. Nice finds:beers:

Great finds James.................:) Got back from vacation Sunday and we had a great time. Picked up another book with lots of information and pictures of you know what. Went out to that place and took some pictures and compared them to the old photos I have and this is definitely the right place. I just may pick up a large coil and give this spot a shot again next spring. I did go back to this old city park my buddy and I hunted a couple of years ago and there are still coins there which I have posted. Once again, very nice finds buddy and hopefully we can hook up maybe sometime next year.......;) HH.

That is terrific that you were able to find some Material on that site you have been looking for. Then maybe you can cross-reference some of the Old Pictures with the New Pictures you took so you can have a better idea where things were sitting. Sure would be fun to meet up with you sometime. Hope to see some nice finds if you get back to the Park you mentioned. Good Luck and HH.:detecting:

Only time I change the Recovery Setting is if I know there is Super Deep Targets and not a lot of Trash or Iron. I use to run Deep On Only with a Sensitivity Setting of 28 Semi-Auto but went to Fast On Only to try that after seeing a buddy of mine digging quite deep with Fast On Only. I also dropped the Sensitivity down to 22 Semi-Auto so it wasn't too much in Trashier Area's. Gain always stays at 10. I also run Iron Mask set at a -10 on my XS, which would be a -22 on your SE. I have seen it also with the SE that when you use too much Gain, you will get more falsing and possibly start to loose Signal Strength or Depth from over compensating. It is safe to say that you should use 7 or 8 on your Gain. The SE is more Sensitive than the XS and a lot faster. And the more you use the Joey Coil, the more you will be glad you bought one. Super Slick Coil for use in Trashy Area's, that is for sure. Thanks for the Post Digitrich and Good Luck and HH.:detecting:

all of the neat stuff that you find.Im glad you have a job because their wouldnt be any thing left to hunt if you hunted 40 hours a week.Minelab would have to pay you because their sales would go down.HA HA .Glad to see your posts, and good luck on your next hunt.

If only a person could find the same amount in Pocket Change than what a person makes working, I would choose Detecting. But back to reality! Could you imagine if you could get into every Old Yard or every Place say in a small town? Just imagine how much Silver, Jewelery, Relics, and Etc. a person would find. Now if the Minelab Musketeer was only as Deadly as the Explorer's, I have 2 other Buddies that are just as good as I and we could be called the 3 Musketeers!:rofl:Then it wouldn't take as long to clean out everything in the Midwest! Love the Post Crow-Duck and Good Luck and HH to you when you get out.
