Jumpy signal

shooter

Just wondering how some of you guys are handling jumpy sig that are probably coins being masked, I'l get multi hits that will jump from like 25-50-70 back and forth, but if I dig it always seem to be junk, what should we be looking for o0n those high jumpy signals?

If a signal is jumpy, and occasionally going into the (high) good zone, you want to look for the following. The exact number in the good zone will eventually repeat itself as you do multiple sweeps. If the (high) good zone number never repeats itself, its junk (iron). Dig some targets using both of the above criteria (repeating & non-repeating)...to see for yourself, to gain experience. Fisher/Teks have a wider than usual jumpy VDI for good targets, than let's say a White's unit. The key is watching for the exact (good VDI #) repeating itself with multiple sweeps in the same sweep direction (not circling the target from different angles).

shooter, there are two things that cause jumpy signals, trash and depth. If one is relying pretty much on vdi, one is going to miss a good many good targets and also dig a lot of trash. As a coin shooter, I mainly use 3h and 4h tones and listen for those higher tones that may be partially masked. It is also important to know the age of the site one is hunting and if it has the potential for coins like I H's, 2 and 3 cent pieces, one simply has to dig those mid to higher tones...particularly if they have some depth. And as is frequently the case, some of those targets are going to be a trash item. Now, I do refer to the screen to see where the numbers are showing and what I look for, particularly if the target has some depth, is a fairly repeatable range of numbers. If there is a good target co-located with trash, that good tone and number will repeat. Also, getting a good pinpoint is very important for getting the best accuracy of tone and vdi. HH jim tn

Don't rely too heavily on the VDI. Repeatable solid 'good' tones are more reliable than a VDI readout. VDI, in my estimation is accurate only to about 4-6" depending on soil mineralization. The deepies/older style coinage are more dependent on tone than VDI.

If you listen closely you will hear the high coin tone..and if your fast you can see the flash of the 80 up Id..But like was said the tone is the key.. Swing it shoulder to shoulder for better seperation.. Don't do a crawl sweep. It will not work well on the 75...
