Jumpy Signals

Well i got rained out after 10 minutes on the first hunt, did notice that the TID was very jumpy in discrimination 1 & 4 it was better in all metal. Was running the 705 at sensitivity 22-24 and noise canceled at 1, GB at auto, Threshold at 5. The ground is mild but a lot of trash. Swept very slow but seemed better with a faster swing. Would tracking help this problem? Didn't get a chance to try this.

This unit is a little different for me so any help will be greatly appreciated .

Tracking may well help. There's no reason to not use it.
A smaller coil or DD coil may help too, especially if there are a lot of metallic objects present, as multiple objects in the detection field at once can confuse the machine

if your looking for coins the 3 kHz coiltek digger coil is the bomb. Always run ground balance tracking as the ground can change very quickly. I always run it in AM and just learn to ignore the iron tones, when you started swinging faster the coil was missing a lot of the signals and that was why it was less noisy. run it in AM and slow down. how many tones was you using ?

That would depend on what you're hunting for.
For a coin shooter the LF coils are the berries. If prospecting or jewelry hunting then the HF would be my choice. But even a 10.5" MF would do better than the stock 9" concentric where trash density is moderate to high, and it's a coil that I wish was the stock coil here as it is in the U.K.

I was running in 4 Tones. I do coin hunt but like jewelry hunting the most, logged in for 2013 with 38 rings, 10 Gold 10 Silver and the rest junk rings. All with the F5 and Outlaw.

then the Minelab X-Terra 10" x 5" DD 18.75 kHz coil would be the one you want

Strive to hunt in AM or zero disc with 99 (actually 28 ) tones. AM will teach you proper coil/swing speed. So slow enough to isolate and identify each hit if at all possible.
If gold and jewelry is your game, then any of the HF DD coils are what you'll want. Bottle caps will be your biggest nemesis, but being an old Tesoro user you'll learn the tone nuances quick enough to be able to distinguish them from most good targets.

I'd also recommend that you specifically read Randy's Article :Ever Wonder What You're Missing".

Hey Digger45, those were my first two detectors! I liked both of them a lot-- the Outlaw for coins and relics, the F5 for jewelry-- but still wanted to try different brands and styles so now Im running a 705 with the 9 inch 7.5kHz coil. With that set-up, and in the various but non-extreme soil conditions in my neck of the woods, the TID doesnt work well for me either.SO youre not alone. However, even though Im having issues with TID bounces, the tones are becoming very informative to me (I only have about 20 hours on the 705). I have mostly been in AM/99 tones/auto GB/ with other setting numbers similar to yours. Recently I have been trying to run in Disc with nothing notched out and GB tracking. This is supposed to calm some of the TID spasms and from what I understand, still be able to hear everything in the ground while also be able to hear certain telling sounds that help ID trash better. I cant really say if this set-up is working as intended yet, as Ive only got a few hours in these newest settings. It was in a very trashy yard so signls/TID were everywhere for good reason. Also important to note is that Im still learning MDing in general so nothing I say can be considered an expert opinion. All my issues are still likely of my own making. I just try to absorb and pass along some of the knowledge coming from the regulars on this forum!

Let us know if and how you resolve your TID issue.

the jumpy signals may even be from having more than one target under the 9" concentric coil at once

All good ideas and i will try many of them and i will get it worked out, the one thing i have learned is that every detector is different and not to get down on one but to put more time in on it and it will become your favorite. This one will be no different just need to work at it.

Thanks everyone for your help and i will report back asap.

Got in about a half hour this after noon and did run in AM with tracking on and it seemed to make some difference but in the test garden the buried quarter would hit at 42/32/16/42.
here again bouncing around. i know there is no metal there, also the dime did the same thing. My F5 will lock on the dime at 72 and the quarter at 83 and not jump at all no matter which way you go over it.

Do you think that sensitivity at 22 is too high? I will try different parks that i hunt this coming week and see how they react.

Is 22 the highest that you can run the Sens and have it remain stable?

Also, what range is Tracking indicating? If the numbers are low, like below 20 or more, then you will likely get more depth from a DD coil.

It starts to get noisy at about 26,i will try this morning at as high as i can just under where the noise starts. I haven't noticed where the tracking range is as i will check this out also. Once again thanks for the help from all of you.

Be back soon.

Ok some progress this morning, set the sensitivity at 18 with tracking on used #2 on the discrimination with all bars open, none noched out. This seemed to make the 705 much quieter and it would lock in on signals, much better than in all metal. I have hunted these areas several times but with some discrimination. While in tracking i would hit the gb button and the ground phase is extremely low, running from 10 to 18 but never over 20. This may be some of the problem with the stock coil. In #4 Disc it worked better than before but not as good as the modified #2, i could run sensitivity as high as 30 but signals bouncing all over.

What you guys think?

Definitely sounds like given your ground phase you'd benefit from a DD coil.
And as far as your sensitivity goes, to some extent it too would likely be stable at a higher setting with a DD, but until then it's like you're driving in fog with your high beams on.
Also, you might try running a disc pattern that has -8 & 48 notched out, but be careful because that can lead you to swinging too fast.

that's some hot ground ... most places around here mine is pretty mineralized too running from 18-25 on the GB ... looks like you are starting to figure it out
