Here is what my typical day looks like. Nothing special. Was hoping for 125 coins and didn't make it. So what? Got tired after 2 3/4 hours. Besides I had found some other goodies to keep me satisfied.

Somebody posted last night that God was speaking to me with those two medals. He always does. I try to hear Him. I thought about that poster when I dug this. It was the second or third find of the day. Who amongst us doesn't find peace while detecting? Isn't the worst day you ever had in the field a gift? Don't your worries disappear, at least for a while?

Silver Threads (Coins) Among the Gold.

This site has been a great silver producer and today was OK too. Got the Merc early. Five Wheats too. I think I dropped a wheat someplace because I was sure I had found six. The SLQ was a surprise. It indicated as a penny and was at least 8 inches deep. It was shining up at me from the bottom of the hole as I folded back my flap. I have not been lucky with silver quarters this year. Found three. One Washington. One SLQ. One Barber. I found a boatload of deep old square nails too and the one pictured was in my pocket when I got home. I tossed the rest. I don't know what that big thing is. It gets a whole lot better.

How many times have I lamented about my poor gold production this year? Can you turn things around with one hunt? Heck yeah! Got that big 10K chain real early. I was tickled. I thought it might be worth about 200 bucks and I was right. 14.9 grams. The second chain came right before the SLQ. It was a jumpy signal. Size A. I thought for sure it was a deep coin. It was a shallow 14K chain with a lock & heart pendant. 5.9 grams this time. I looked to heaven and praised God.

The End.

I make it out that my gold is worth a hair over $325.00 at today's price. I had found just over 1/3 ounce of gold jewelry in all of 2009 until today. Now slightly over an ounce and only 5.5 grams behind 2008. I went on for an hour or so after finding the second chain and got some more coins. I prayed hard before I left. What a fab day! A gift.

Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word.

When I make a mistake I usually correct it many times before I let it drop. The biggest mistake I have made here on this forum is that, in the past, I often gave the advice not to get the large imaging coil for the 2500. I think I may weld that thing onto my detector. It is all I use lately and I think I've used it for every hunt for at least two months. If you want to find the deep, stuff get one! If you already own one, use it! It took me a few weeks of practice with it and I consider myself to be somewhat proficient with my 2500. Thanks to the hunter out there who got me to try it for more than a few hours.

How is that old paper towel looking? Isn't it a nice contrast to that shiny gold?

What a great hunt! I think you hit the nail right on the head, though, when you referred to the peace of mind that metal detecting can bring....I have been amazed at times when I have hunted for hours in the summer heat, and actually feel refreshed, simply because I have been concentrating on my detecting and not worrying about other things. Nice hunt, good philosophy. HH

Those old SLQ's aren't very date friendly but silver is silver and the gold speaks for itself.

Smokin' hunt :yo: Congrats

Chris

I believe a few posts back you were saying how bad your luck was. Well it comes and goes my man and I believe it has come back to you. Maybe those bad stretches have gone for a while!

Good luck with future hunts and congrats on the variety of finds on that trip.

And...God is talking to you!

Don

My luck has been good all year. I hope I didn't write that it wasn't. My luck with gold was not so hot. Is that what I said? I hope. Today the stars must have aligned directly above.

Thanks for looking and, I AM listening.

Chris

I've found 8 SLQs. None have had dates.

Chris

If anyone deserves it, its you. Cheers, mate!

And I have a pool started on your paper towel....

Wow, great post Chris! Good gold too!

Yeh that 12.5 coil is awesome eh? Remember when I hunted that dry lake bed in Ga and dug about 500 items in couple weeks? Well that was the coil I did it with. I'm not sure how hot your ground is there...what does it usually say it balances out at? At that lake it was around 6-7 on the grnd balance scale. So because it wasent too hot there that coil was Imaging size B at 10 inches and was pulltabs usually and IT SAID it was a pulltab.
Oh yeh...big fan of that coil. I see your getting great use out of it and your a tribute that great 2500 you use also.

Just think..that 2500 is old technology for Garrett...1997? I believe, but is still a kick butt machine, and to wonder what they are cooking up in there lab now...cant wait. Hopefully this Fall they will unveil it for us.

Always enjoy your insightful post.

Alan

Great post!:clapping:Thanks for sharing! Congrats on the great finds!:cheers:Happy Hunting!:)

I used to ask you how you swung that big clunky coil for so long on that dried out lake. I wish you had been more adamant about getting me to try it out.

Chris

It's seen some pretty good finds. 1793 silver coin, the chains, half a dozen religious medals, at least a dozen silver coins, maybe 50 Wheats. I'm very fond of that towel.

Chris

Thanks all for the kind words. A big part of the hobby for me is sharing my good fortune with the gang at Findmall. I appreciate it when anybody takes the time to look and to respond.

Chris

The towel says.

Had a hunt today that wasn't so hot compared to yesterday. It was still a fab day!

Chris

Your doing GREAT, Gold chains are hard to find for me and I usually cut them in half while digging.

I think that towel is fine, it will go another season.

There is another side too. I think it will go until 2011.
