I posted a bit less than a week ago about a yard that I was hunting and having good luck in. I'd found a 1916 merc, a damaged silver rosie, a couple of V-nickels and some civil war bullets AND my first ever gold ring found with a detector. Well I returned to the yard for a few hours on Monday afternoon and searched the same front yard areas but with the sunray x-5 coil instead of my stock coil. I wanted to go over some trashy areas and hoped to find a couple more bullets, perhaps a button or two, and am always hoping for more silver. I didn't even dream to hope for another gold ring, though. I figured that after finding the first one I most probably wouldn't find another for a long, long time. My luck just usually isn't that good.... Anyway, most of the afternoon I spent digging memorial pennies, and aluminum trash with numbers that ranged in the civil war button/pull-tab range. I ended up with one more 58 caliber 3 ringer in great shape about half way through my time there and that was about it. I recieved the "dinner is ready and where are you?!" phone call from my wife and was getting ready to leave when I thought "well, I'll dig one more hole". I'd hit a good button or pull tab range signal (sorry...don't remember the numbers because by that time I was figuring it was just another piece of aluminum siding or pull tab). I flipped up the plug onto my cloth and poked around... and .......there was another gold ring!!! I was less than 6 feet way from where I'd found the first one and all I could think of to say was "you've got to be Sh##ing me!!". The ring came out of the ground feeling warm and heavy and slipped right onto my ring finger (anyone ever read the Hobbit?). It's a man's wedding band and the first one that I found, less than 7 days ago, was a woman's. I'd love to know the story behind these and why they were lost there together but they're obviously from before the current residents so I guess I'll just have to make up some stories to go with them...lol. The man's band had an inscription on the inside but all of that, and the karat numbers, are worn off and gone. There's just a hint of the tops of a few letters and karat weight numbers. With the heft of the ring I'm thinking at least 14 k but I'll take it to my jeweler friend tomorrow perhaps to find out for sure. My detecting buddy, who was across the street in another yard, has taken to calling me "gold finger" now...lol. OH and my wife wasn't upset at all because of my tardiness for dinner when I showed her the ring...... Man I love this hobby! Wonder if I'll find the engagement ring next??????
